Joseph Reid Posted September 4, 2009 Share #1 Posted September 4, 2009 Advertisement (gone after registration) I expect to be at the announcement in New York next Wednesday. What I would like to know from forum members is what 3 questions you would ask of the Leica reps there. I will collect them, cull them and if no one else asks them at the event I will try to get the answers to a few of them and relay them here and on my website. I ask for no more than three just to keep things manageable. Of course, there's no guarantee I'll be able to ask these questions but I will try. Clearly the basics will be announced, so I don't mean things like basic specs and it would be helpful if you spare me the generally amusing wise-a** remarks that we all ordinarily love. Just trying to be practical here and not clog the thread. No offense intended to anyone. I realize it's highly speculative at this point but I would suggest focusing on the M9 that seems to be the object of this announcement and maybe the X1 in case it's real (who knows, by the time I post this there may be some juicy leak that firms this up or knocks it down). Larger, long-term questions about Leica, its future, its place in the market, things like that would be great. I read this forum a good deal and it's always a reminder of how much expertise and insight there is among Leica users and how little I know. So please think big, think small, think smart. THANK YOU ALL!

adan Posted September 4, 2009 Share #2 Posted September 4, 2009 1. (unless it is already made clear by the presentation, handouts, or previous questions) What non-current Leica lenses (previous generations) will work with the M9, (almost typed M8!) and which will not. Is Leica going to publish a list as they did with the M8? ------------------------------- That's the only question I really have, but since I know others will want to know, I'll add 2. (unless it is already made clear by the presentation, handouts, or previous questions) Has Leica reconsidered its position regarding participating in the micro 4/3rds system? 3. (unless it is already made clear by the presentation, handouts, or previous questions) Does Leica yet have a rough timetable and/or minimum specs for the previously-alluded-to "solution" for R lens owners. lct Posted September 4, 2009 Share #3 Posted September 4, 2009 1. Ditto Andy 2. Will the Leica "solution" for R lenses allow for using the latters on full frame 24x36, APS-H, APS-C, FT or MFT sensors? 3. Ditto Andy
eldelbo Posted September 4, 2009 Share #4 Posted September 4, 2009 From a practical (purchaser) point of view: - How much 'real world' testing have you done on the M9 body before releasing it? - Are you confident that the M9 will not exhibit quality problems in the way that the M8 did on its release? - Will the M9 be released in a chrome version? Not grand, strategic questions, but those I'd ask if I could.
albertknappmd Posted September 4, 2009 Share #5 Posted September 4, 2009 I would re-direct Andy's R lens question as follows: Given the incipient launch of the S2 and its novel technology, what is stopping you from developing an R10 modelled along the same lines but with an obviously smaller (but still FF) sensor?
lct Posted September 4, 2009 Share #6 Posted September 4, 2009 I would re-direct Andy's R lens question as follows: Given the incipient launch of the S2 and its novel technology, what is stopping you from developing an R10 modelled along the same lines but with an obviously smaller (but still FF) sensor? You might wish to take a look on what Stefan Daniel stated here: http://www.l-camera-forum.com/leica-forum/customer-forum/89591-summary-q-session-stefan-daniel-during.html

johnastovall Posted September 4, 2009 Share #8 Posted September 4, 2009 Would Leica consider an arrangement with Canon to produce fully EOS compatiable lenses based on it's great R APO designs?
manolo Posted September 4, 2009 Share #9 Posted September 4, 2009 Could they consider the possibility to make a new visoflex for the M9 to take old R lenses PLEASE?
manolo Posted September 4, 2009 Share #10 Posted September 4, 2009 does this mean MR10 on 2010? (with S2 advanses???)
egibaud Posted September 4, 2009 Share #11 Posted September 4, 2009 1- Why not call it MPdigital if it's going to be som much better than the M8? 2- Why not price it like M8.2 and discontinue M8.2? 3- Do they realize I am moving onto Canon because investing in two M9 bodies to replace my two M8 do not make financial sense? Professional can hardly justify such an investment. Nikon and Canon have more logical option despite the glass quality difference.
cnguyen Posted September 4, 2009 Share #12 Posted September 4, 2009 Give me an M9 with live view + R to M adapter and that's good enough for me. I can use all my R lenses that way.
patrick parker Posted September 4, 2009 Share #13 Posted September 4, 2009 Is there any chance they may keep up with the upgrading of M8 series?
wparsonsgisnet Posted September 4, 2009 Share #14 Posted September 4, 2009 Can I use the 50mm 'cron DR at close focus? Of course, Andy covered it in general, but this is the magic lens. And, thanks for taking this on Joe.

arthury Posted September 5, 2009 Share #16 Posted September 5, 2009 Which focusing frame will the 90mm Summicron-M APO get --- still the little tiny one or a better focusing frame?
arthury Posted September 5, 2009 Share #17 Posted September 5, 2009 Is the LCD larger ... gosh, I hope so! The current LCD on the M8 is too small.
jamriman Posted September 5, 2009 Share #18 Posted September 5, 2009 3- Do they realize I am moving onto Canon because investing in two M9 bodies to replace my two M8 do not make financial sense? Professional can hardly justify such an investment. Nikon and Canon have more logical option despite the glass quality difference. I would love to have this question answered. I can't understand how Leica can expect to compete when their product is so much higher in price. I'm not a pro but if my career depended on it, simple economics would make the Japanese alternative clear. Brand loyalty is not enough.
bill Posted September 5, 2009 Share #19 Posted September 5, 2009 Joe, from a purely practical standpoint, having run circuses like this before, can I suggest that you: a) Try to email a list of questions to the organisers before the event. Take a printed version, double-spaced and in aerial 14, to the event, and hand it to someone. These measures may make it more likely that your questions will get answered in the scrum Regards, Bill
Guest New2LeicaRF Posted September 5, 2009 Share #20 Posted September 5, 2009 I would like to get an M9 , but will it be too expensive? what's rumour/ speculation about the price?
