Advertisement Posted September 2, 2009 Posted September 2, 2009 Hi PeterP, Take a look here M9 specs according to my dealer. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!

Sheesh. Just what I want from my 19mm Elmarit. Not.
jrc Posted September 2, 2009 Share #23 Posted September 2, 2009 The GF-1 may be the new Leica, as the clip-on EVF would allow either R or M lenses to be used quite readily (as manual lenses.) It would be a 2x solution, though, and I don't think most R shooters would be happy with that. The camera would be smaller than the lenses, which would also be a little odd. I hope the photos of the M9 and X1 are photoshopped. I hope Leica wouldn't release a camera as ugly as the X1; it looks like a tiny Argus C3. The GF-1, on the other hand, is quite handsome. The alleged M9 also seems a bit ungainly, while the M8 is quite good-looking. If that *is* the M9, then they haven't solved the IR problem -- that camera appears to have a filter on the lens, judging from the rosy glow of the glass. The one thing that makes me think it might be the M9 is that it seems disproportionately tall...and we have another thread in which somebody says he's gotten specs from a dealer, who says the M9 is 1cm taller than the M8. That also seems odd to me. I have a bunch of Nikon cameras, including a D300. Just eyeballing them, back-to-back, the D300 is just slightly longer than an M8 and about 2cm taller. If the M9 is 1cm taller than the M8, it actually puts the Leica up in the D300 size range, and IMHO that's no longer a "compact, handy camera." I don't know - 9-9-9 is beginning to look more and more interesting, for more and more reasons. JC
sdai Posted September 2, 2009 Share #24 Posted September 2, 2009 If anybody from Leica is reading this thread, please: Do not rebadge the GirlFriend-1 as a R solution, it's an absurdity and insult to the R users.
adan Posted September 2, 2009 Share #25 Posted September 2, 2009 R users are still in denial. Leica no longer sells any R product - why should they care if you switch to Canon or Nikon (if you haven't already). It does not hurt them a bit. As to optical convertors - sure, there was also the Nikon Speed-Magny. A Polaroid back incorporating optics to enlarge the 35mm image from the lens to cover most of a 3.25 x 4.25 Polaroid frame. Scroll down to second section on page: Nikon F2 SS-F2 Slidemagic System Probably much less bulky to "minify" an image onto a smaller sensor. But I doubt Leica is going to spend precious R&D money on a...system...that...is....dead.
stevem7 Posted September 2, 2009 Share #26 Posted September 2, 2009 "5 frames per second, twin battery pack, LED display on the top..." huh? Sounds unlikely. Yea, this is not happening.

Agree 100% with that. But then again, they have already lost my dSLR budget... They cannot keep messing R users around and expect them to wait interminably
Saloti Posted September 2, 2009 Share #29 Posted September 2, 2009 If Leica launches the equivalent to Lumix GF1, accepting Leica M Lenses, plus probably new Leica lenses specially produced for this type of camera then Leica finally closes the gap between D Lux 4 and M-line. An excellent decision, I think. If all this comes, with M9, then Leica has to speed up to offer a R10D to owners of R lenses... Because I fully agree with the before said: Leica will not seriously consider a Leica GF 1 with an adapter for R lenses as the "R" solution. They have to bring a DSLR with FF this is clear. markowich Posted September 2, 2009 Share #30 Posted September 2, 2009 I am an R user with a stock of fine lenses and agree with what you say Luigi. well, just buy a D3x and leitax conversion sets. it will solve your problem, beating everything leica wil have to offer to R users. p

albertknappmd Posted September 2, 2009 Share #32 Posted September 2, 2009 Disheartening news indeed about the lack of an R10... I hope that Leica realizes that many loyal customers will be stuck with multiple R lenses and will not tolerate the Lumix solution. I will continue to use my DMRs but am really annoyed that Leica is not or has not designed a successor.... I am exceedingly happy with my 2 M8s and will probably not get the M9 until all kinks are ironed out... With keep the M8s for tele work..
Overgaard Posted September 2, 2009 Share #33 Posted September 2, 2009 I am an R user with a stock of fine lenses and agree with what you say Luigi. Me too. But the M9 I want. And it's not 1 cm higher, its the same size as the M8.

I will continue to use my DMRs but am really annoyed that Leica is not or has not designed a successor.... If the M9 has live view and a clip on EVF (a la the GF-1) that would be a better way to use the R lenses than with the M4/3rd cameras. My bet is that it doesn't have these features. The GF-1 looks more like the digital "Leica" I have been waiting for. (Small, versatile and reasonably priced.) Let's see what Leica's version looks like.
