K I Posted October 22, 2009 Share #21 Posted October 22, 2009 Advertisement (gone after registration) love my M8.2 just as much, not for the IQ between both cameras as i believe in my own opinion that they are identical especially in B&W jpeg, some may disagree, i am not a pixel peeper. Here are a few reasons i love my M8: It allows me to really think before pulling the trigger, composition especially I can be more discreet when shooting street which i enjoy a lot Slightly more pixels compared to the D3, print purposes not that much of a difference though It commands much respect allowing me to get in conversations that may lead to paid work The types of shots i look for seem to be different from what i would normally shoot with any other camera, unless i am playing around with it Amazing for night time street photography In short, its a different frame of mind type photography for me, totally mental I shoot with the Summarit line of lenses ( Great lenses and inexpensive compared to other Leica lenses ) except for the 35mm + i own the Elmarit 28 f/2.8. Love the Summarit 75mm, my favorite focal range on the M ( Read Review Here ) Its a Rangefinder, i need to find more time to shoot it Try it! I am sure you will love it... Kind Regards Kelvin KI
Advertisement Posted October 22, 2009 Posted October 22, 2009 Hi K I, Take a look here Can a Digilux 3 and Digilux 2 coexist?. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
K I Posted October 22, 2009 Share #22 Posted October 22, 2009 I was going to sell it and upgrade to an M8 but I don't have patience for lots of lenses anymore. I am going to rent an M8 and if it "blows me away" well then............... How do you like your M8? I love it! Different animal... KI
K I Posted October 23, 2009 Share #23 Posted October 23, 2009 Thanks KI, I am determined to get a look I like out of this camera. I will keep expirementing. It was a diservice to this camera for me to buy a Dlux4, 2 D2's, and it within a 3 month period. I feel like I haven't given it a chance yet! I will keep shooting. Thanks again, John John, Try this on your D3 - COLOR Mode Camera Settings Auto White Balance Set Manually to 5000K Custom Film Preset : CONTRAST - FULL ( All the way to the right ) SHARPNESS - CENTER SATURATION - FULL ( All the way to the right ) NOISE REDUCTION - CENTER ISO 200 EXPOSURE COMPENSATION ( -1 ) Shoot colors using these settings and let us know what you think... I don't shoot color that much but i absolutely love this settings so far from what i see... Fall is here Kelvin KI
carlosecpf Posted October 23, 2009 Author Share #24 Posted October 23, 2009 I am very happy with the Dynamic Color and Dynamic B&W film settings on my D3, however I will try the color configurations you mentioned in my D3 as soon as I get back from my vacations. I am currently in Brazil and brought only my D2 as a travel companion.
Cirrus1 Posted October 23, 2009 Share #25 Posted October 23, 2009 I only print B&W.... used to shoot in color and convert but I like the Leica recipe so much for the jpegs in the dlux4 and d2 I only shoot that way now. Doing some testing yesterday on a shot, that I know looks great on the d2, the d3's image lacks local contrast(edge detail) and is missing that painterly look of the d2. Its a very controled lighting situation in my back yard so I don't think its external conditions. I have also heard such great things about the kit lens I don't think its the lens. The print looks flat and uniteresting(after following my usual recipe for PP). I have compared the 2 prints side by side and its very obvious.... my wife even see's it! I am at a loss..... By the way, today I was testing stitching d2 files together. Three verticals give a very nice tabloid size print at 288 dpi.

carlosecpf Posted January 20, 2010 Author Share #27 Posted January 20, 2010 Advertisement (gone after registration) Hi KI, How can I set White BAlace Manually to 5000k in my D3? I don't see an option to set the value in Kelvin manually, only moving a point in a color axis. Thanks, Carlos John, Try this on your D3 - COLOR Mode Camera Settings Auto White Balance Set Manually to 5000K Custom Film Preset : CONTRAST - FULL ( All the way to the right ) SHARPNESS - CENTER SATURATION - FULL ( All the way to the right ) NOISE REDUCTION - CENTER ISO 200 EXPOSURE COMPENSATION ( -1 ) Shoot colors using these settings and let us know what you think... chkphoto Posted January 20, 2010 Share #28 Posted January 20, 2010 All images on my site are Digilux 2 and 3. I really like the 3. It's raw files have a great amount of latitude and its color rendition is fantastic. I like its functionality and its heft. With proper exposure its 1600 iso is very pleasing to me. The only thing I wish is that the shutter speed dial turned all the way through the fastest and slowest shutter speed settings instead of stopping and then having to turn it back around the other way. A minor irritant but non the less an irritant to me. I do wish there was a next iteration of these 2 cameras. chkfoto
