jrc Posted September 1, 2009 Share #1 Posted September 1, 2009 Advertisement (gone after registration) Leica would be stupid not to have made an effort to quench all the rumors on this site and Rangefinder Forum and Luminous Landscape if there is not an M9 coming. If a Leica representative walks out on a news conference stage on 9-9-9 and announces an M8.3 and a new availability date for an S2 and a D-Lux 5, there will be a huge wave of disappointment that would essentially obliterate any good news in the conference. I still think it's possible that they have nothing but an M9 prototype, with the camera itself to debut at the 2010 Photokina. JC

adli Posted September 1, 2009 Share #3 Posted September 1, 2009 I agree that Leica aren't stupid, and the M9 is more or less confirmed. But, boy it would have been fun to see the faces of all those who pre-ordered if the new camera turned out to be an M8.
kidigital Posted September 1, 2009 Share #4 Posted September 1, 2009 I think that Leica has seen the reaction generated on all of the forums about a potential M9 being ready to go. Dealers are compiling waiting lists ... there's a serious demand. Judging by the enthused response, I think that they would've thrown out a cautionary statement about the existence of an M9 and immediate delivery if nothing was imminent. bill Posted September 1, 2009 Share #5 Posted September 1, 2009 Y'know, patience is a much under-rated virtue in this world of instant gratification and online hysteria. Let's wait and see, shall we? I have more faith in the Gnomes of Solms than I did in those twits tinkering with the Large Hadron Collider. At least we can be certain that the world will still be spinning on the 10th... tadeyev Posted September 1, 2009 Share #7 Posted September 1, 2009 Advertisement (gone after registration) I find it unbelievable that people still don't believe what they have been told. A number of us here have already ordered M9's from OFFICIAL LEICA DEALERS. We have also been told that it will be 18m pixels and full frame. Look at YouTube as much as you want; Leica and their dealers are not fools- so just start believing it ! The price we are all being quoted is +/- Euro 5,500. I even have a receipt for my M9 order with this amount on it. So there WILL NOT be a cheap, smaller M9 and other threads have proposed. My dealer even said clearly that it might even be slightly higher in price when delivery starts. On only ONE POINT there is doubt: most official dealers say delivery will be END OF THE YEAR- not September.... However, this might be because deliveries will be slow and trickle out, or they will be starting at Christmas time, who knows. I'll enjoy the wait for the white box with black letters to arrive. As to the 2 other cameras, nobody has made such clear statements. The S2 is expected as planned, so that is out of the hat. Over the secret '3rd' camera we can all speculate in full ! Just my 2 cent rant here! Theo

Saloti Posted September 1, 2009 Share #9 Posted September 1, 2009 It is crytsal clear that M9 will be presented & shipped on September 9. It is even crystal clear that there will be more surprises beyong M9 and S2. The youtube announcement made this very crytal clear, an action fair enough by Leica.... adan Posted September 1, 2009 Share #10 Posted September 1, 2009 Theo, there's an old saying in journalism - "If your grandmother tells you she loves you - check it out!" I.E. - never believe what you are told unless you - personally - have multiple sources and evidence to back it up. The last official word from a Leica employee was that there were still problems to work out in a "full-frame" digital Leica - Stephan Daniels in May. Dealers are in the business of selling cameras, not accurately reporting what Leica's plans are - they have their own agendas. Until Rudy Spiller stands at the podium holding one in his hand - there is room for doubt. That being said, I am No. 1 on a list with my dealer for an "M9" - if it is fullframe. He has told me nothing himself, but was willing to start a list for me. I think the odds are high that it will be revealed (if not available) 9/9. But after a decade of being "told" about WMDs and "The R10 is next" and "Americans don't torture" and a host of other official fictions - I believe things when I see them, not before. fnuernberger Posted September 1, 2009 Share #14 Posted September 1, 2009 But, who would have guessed that Leica was delivering the M8 with a serious - easy to detect - IR-issue? Would anyone out there bet serious money on the M9 being full-frame, decent ISO 2000, and free of green light streaks etc?

Though you also find some - not many - people on the web and in this forum, who know the difference between a Leica-rumor and Leica's reality. When the first hints on a M9 came out (Capture One profiles, etc) I was sure, this was nonsense, for I thought it was not possible. But then i had to notice that the same "some people" whom I think know more about Leica than anybody else in this forum didn't tell us, this is nonsense, but went on with "hinting". Since it is clear for me that there won't be any disappointment on 9/9 as far as the M9 is concerned.

Guest BigSplash Posted September 1, 2009 Share #17 Posted September 1, 2009 The more I read about the forthcoming 9 Sept announcement I think and I am guessing like everyone else that we are looking at : > M9 full frame, with 18 MP , extended ISO range, M8.3 shutter and a body size that is about same as M8...it would be good if they had an electric cable release rather than the old screw in thing, but I doubt it. > A derivative of Lumix G1 that can take either M lenses or R lenses via adapters....I guess this is the Visoflex killer, but satisfies the need for Macro and Telephoto ...presumably there will be more lenses forthcoming from Leica and they will be AF. I think that this camera will have a sensor that probably is better than G1 ( perhaps the M9 sensor if this is possible) > Super wide angle lenses ..say 15mm and maybe a fisheye for M If they did that I think it would be brilliant and I would be more interested in the G1 than the M9 personally. Hope I am correct.
