ckthual Posted September 1, 2009 Share #1 Posted September 1, 2009 Advertisement (gone after registration) Hi all, Just an quick thought : - there was a rumour weeks ago that said that Leica may use a Canon sensor for the M9 Leica M9 to use Canon sensor? | Leica Rumors - there was another rumour about the M9 getting a full frame 18MP sensor - Canon announced today the Canon 7D with an APS-C 18MP sensor Canon unveils EOS 7D high-end digital SLR: Digital Photography Review .... so I hope the M9 will really come with a full frame sensor and not this APS-C Canon sensor. Once again... let's all wait for the 9/9/9 (but I'm sooo curious about this !!! ) ) Kind regards
Advertisement Posted September 1, 2009 Posted September 1, 2009 Hi ckthual, Take a look here Canon 7D + M9 "18MP sensor" Parralel ?. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
jaapv Posted September 1, 2009 Share #2 Posted September 1, 2009 Not a chance of this connection - it is just a coincidence.

delander † Posted September 1, 2009 Share #4 Posted September 1, 2009 I do hope that the M9 images look nothing like the Canon 7D images posted today on dpreview, they look so soft. Jeff
PeterP Posted September 1, 2009 Share #5 Posted September 1, 2009 Canon sensor is apparently a 1.46 crop (go figure). Hardly a FF. MP image size is purely co-incidental. Crop is apparently tied to max that EF-S lens can deliver w/o distortion. If in fact the camera is built around low end lens performance, it is a consumer camera. wilfredo Posted September 1, 2009 Share #6 Posted September 1, 2009 Is heresy about to manifest itself in the body of a Leica M9??? A FF Canon CMOS sensor in the Leica M9? I doubt it, but if that were the case, then no more UV/IR filters, but it will also mean an end to the M8 signature image (unless of course you continue shooting with the M8 which is what I plan to do). I recently picked up a Canon 5D Mark II and love it, but I won't be getting and M8 divorce. If indeed the M9 will feature a similar CMOS Canon Mark II sensor, then I am even more happy I got the Mark II, I'd rather have that sensor in Canon. devils-advocate Posted September 1, 2009 Share #7 Posted September 1, 2009 Advertisement (gone after registration) I suspect one reason that Leica may have been content with 'only' and 18MP FF sensor (if this is what presents on 9-9-9), is that it will be free of the accursed anti-aliasing filters which mushify everything on the Canonikons. This will likely be CCD all the way -- only Kodak was working on solving the technical problems with digital RF, so logic suggests this will be an evolution of the M8 chip. Mauribix Posted September 1, 2009 Share #8 Posted September 1, 2009 Canon sensor is apparently a 1.46 crop (go figure). Peter is logically right. Why should they go back from 1.33crop to a 1.46 one?
georg Posted September 1, 2009 Share #9 Posted September 1, 2009 APS-C sensors have a 1.6x crop, A 4.3µm pixel-pitch? With Canon-lenses? They should have stayed at 10-12MP!
like_no_other Posted September 1, 2009 Share #10 Posted September 1, 2009 Hi all, .... Once again... let's all wait for the 9/9/9 (but I'm sooo curious about this !!! ) ) Kind regards Not 18. 30+ mpix.
wilfredo Posted September 1, 2009 Share #11 Posted September 1, 2009 One thing Leica can learn from Canon is to listen to their customers. The new 7D is the result of feedback from people using their products.
