size of pictures

I am condemned to use a notebook (1024*768 LCD).

 

If want to look at some pictures posted in portrait format I need to scroll down and scroll up a bit more often than I like. I can not view the entire image at the same time.

 

As a result of it I can not justify the entire composition of the poster's framing.

 

Is it just me who has this trouble...?

No I have to scroll up/down left/right to view all postings here. Never gave it a thought just assumed thats what you did.

It all depends upon the size and resolution of your screen.

 

And your browser software.

 

Safari on a Mac retains the images at the resolution posted, but Firefox seems to scale them to fit the screen area available.

 

Internet Exploder on a PC does the same thing, i.e. reduces the size of the posted image. Sometimes.

 

(I have completely not worked it out yet, but I think it does it based on width only, not height. As with many things Microsoft, the unpredictability of the outcome is part of the excitment of using their products! )

When the jpg is embedded in an html page, the shrinkage does not occur.

 

It also shrinks down jpgs that are too tall for the screen, when they are displayed on their own, and not embedded. Again, compare

So, there is some method to the IE madness after all. I'd still rather it didn't shrink anything down. If I want to see a full res image, I should be able to.

 

If you have a large or high resolution screen, some of the above won't make much sense!

Use the Apple key & then 0 (zero) probably control 0 on a pc & the image will scale to the PS window.

With Internet Explorer place your cursor over the image and if the expand icon shows:

 

 

click it and the image will expand to full size.

Use Opera browser and simply hit the '+' or '-' key to enlarge or reduce incrementally. Hit the ' * ' key to return to normal.

 

There is also an icon in the toolbar for 'fit to width'.

The screen resolution of a notebook PC is an important spec feature that many people forget about.

 

My work's notebook has a 1400x1050 ~13inch screen which I purposely made sure I ordered as I require good graphics for my work, but it also helps with viewing posts on this forum etc. My home PC has a CRT 19inch but I can't use 1600x1200 resolution only because the MS icons are often too small so I keep to 1280x1024. If there was a way to make all software icons / menu buttons bigger I could keep to 1600x1200 to save zooming in PS so much.

i.e get a new PC with a higher screen resolution. 1400x1050 or even 1600x1200 should be available more easily but you may have trouble seeing the small print in e-mails etc.

IE software zoom features that Andy talked about may help reduce the image size for you.

 

Or buy an external LCD with a higher resolution assuming the PC can support this from the video card.

Yes or don't post larger pics than 9" as i do.

This is the way i view most of the pics here when i use a 12" or 13" monitor.
