Does anybody know why the M9 will be launched first in France ?

Come on Frank, none of that has anything to do with Leica, they've maintained their silence throughout. What are they meant to do, respond to every speculative post made on the internet? Or are they meant to announce a new camera body 6th months before it's due to be launched and stiff any sales between then and the launch?

Steve the facts tell a poor market communications approach in my view:

> Leica should have told dealers that there would be no R10 and that "R" series was being killed before they announced this during a factory tour. They could have followed this with a positive press release identifying 70% discounts at SH Photo on lenses and bodies, plus a statement about after sales support...Then they could handle questions at the factory tour. Leica chose to do it the other way around.

> The S2 is still not available yet they were giving details in LFI some months ago, and only last month announced the price. First units will come in Sept or Oct. Surely Leica would be well advised to make a full announcement and in parrallel have a LFI dedicated to the new product at a time when it is possible to actually buy it. At this time it seems unclear if all of the premier dealers will actually be allowed to sell the S2 and having sold it will they be forced to handover the client to Leica Factory......yet the S2 was

announced a month ago.

> At the factory visit my understanding is that Stephan announced that most FF issues had been resolved but not all. If remaining issues could not be fixed for 4Qtr production they would introduce a M8.3, otherwise a M9.... that clearly is a good way of creating rumours, compounded by a lack of clarity on M8 and M8.2 future. My dealer says that he believes (but does not know) that M8 will continue in production...Jaapv tells us that M8 has officially been discontinued, but Andy Barton is not aware ...other postings suggest that M8.2 will continue as the entry model. Meanwhile during the factory tour amidst this confusion Leica confirm that M7 and MP will continue as long as demand exists

Steve I understand that the Forum is a great place for rumours. However as the above shows Leica have not helped themselves by announcing things in a professional way that avoids shutting down M8 sales, keeps the dealers on board, and has stock ready at the dealers on the day of the announcement.

Incorrect. It was announced on a special pre-announced Q&A session.

At the time of the factory tour and BEFORE DEALERS were made aware.

Actually my dealer was not aware a week later and I told him. He did not initially believe me and said he understood the R10 was about to be announced as this was the last info he had. . I told Stefan about this when I spoke that week and he said he would get an announcement out to the dealers asap, which he did.

Since the declared strategy at Leica is to focus sales and their dealers maybe communicating with them in advance of announcements would be a great place to start.

* yawn from sheer boredom *

Why not join the ceo forum ..I am sure you will find many playmates of a similar mind there . ...actually all the usual suspects with little to contribute, and lots of one liners have driven the posting to two pages since yesterday.

Sorry, but in this thread, it's you who are the armchair CEO, not me...

I have as usual been factual, consistent and interpreted the information I believe correctly if that means you feel that I am behaving as a CEO fine. You are also consistent.

Frank

Yesterday I asked you to post the advice to Leica CEO in the thread I opened specially in the Customer section. Please do so, and stop hijacking threads.

Feel free to start a new one in the Customer Section with your advice if you don't like the look of that one - ignore the one-liners.

Thank you.

Next blunder: there was no factory tour. The factory was closed for tours that weekend. Your dealer seems to be seriously out of touch...Several dealers told me they were informed well before the public announcement. Which makes your buddy-buddy with Mr. Daniel not quite the most believable thing on the Internet...

I'm from Sussex. And we haven't forgiven the French for 1066 yet!

'The French!'

William the Conqueror was a grand-grand child of 'Rollo the viking' who was Norwegian! The other guy at the Battle of Hastings, Harold Godwinson was a grand child of the king Sweyn II of Denmark, but often portrait as the 'last Anglo-Saxon king of England'. Those claiming that are one generation too late. At least. Harold Godwinson bet another would-be conqestor: the Norwegian Harald the Hard Ruler, at Stamford Bridge in 1066. So, 'Vikings and Normans' were standing in cue to 'conquer Enland'. Tower of London was built by a Norwegian in the service of William.

I could go on...

Certainly my dealer seems to be out of touch......Most recently you posted that M8 is dead ...he is unaware as is Andy Barton. He has still NOT been informed by Leica (The dealer is moderated and the proprieter is also moderated...suggest you ask him how he learned that R was being discontinued!)

I do not like being called a liar ....again check with Stefan Daniel I have nothing to hide.

Why would I be aware? I can't phone senior managers in Leica and have them take my call. You obviously can.

I would also think twice before naming and quoting dealers on the internet. What you have been told may be in confidence. How would this dealer feel if the Leica rep called telling him his dealership account was being closed because of rumours he'd been feeding on the internet? How would YOU feel? For the sake of the dealer's account, and your blushes next time you speak to him, I have removed his name from your post.

Anything that we discuss here is permanent and public. Any speculation that I make is purely that, unless it's in the public domain.

Don't worry, we haven't forgiven the Vikings either! Or the Romans ... :D

Especially the Romans. They arrived in armchairs, telling us that we should outsource woad production to Brittany and fit our bows with adaptors so that they could also be used as walking sticks.

As others have said, we haven't forgiven your lot either yet, or the Romans (What have the Romans ever done for us?.....). But Bill the Conk (And we won't go into what his other name was, as this is polite company!) did come over from France, and tried to force us English to speak French. He also waited until Harold was up north thumping Harald before he sneaked over the channel. So all in all, we feel quite justified in blaming the French. :D

We Americans really don't have any historical justification for blaming the French for anything, but we often do just for the heck of it.

Don't worry, we blame the French for aiding and abetting the 'lost colony' too. :D

Btw, I think the French have ample reason to resent the British too btw. There's the slight matter of the 100 years war and our own invasions/occupations that we tend to overlook (OK, so the Plantagenet's were originally French but I digress). I'm part of the British US re-invasion, camped out at the site of the original Hudson's Bay Company in Vancouver and doing my part to push back against the tide of Manifest Destiny before I have to retire back to the 49th Parallel.

This is far more interesting than blathering on about M9 rumours. Hee hee.

Only 13 more days to go before we (maybe) hear something ...
