wow .... forget leather ! .... what do YOU charge for the "Rodeo Drive" version ??

/joke

and .... actually .... i have lots of old cameras in my (seriosly humble) collection that are there for nostalgic reasons, and they don't work or don't work well, but i still love to show them of and talk about the designs.

you MAY think about doing this trick to a non-functioning D2, which may be on sale somewhere for cheap.

also .... Morgan is charging me about $120, if i recall, for the kid leather covering job, plus i pay shipping back and forth (and i insured it as well).

he still has it.

And for elgenper & krabat . . . a 4th, more tasteful option :)

:D

Happy you take it from the humorous side... I´m afraid I´m rather conservative in styling matters - but my reactions were absolutely honest and spontaneous...

In any case, this is a working camera, and not a collector´s item (although it may very well become one!), so the important thing is the pictures it produces. Do you have any to show us? You seem to have owned it for quite some time. A few of mine are in that long thread titled "Do Digilux 2 imagea have a distinctive look?".

Best, (and no hard feelings, I hope!)

daveleo, go ahead and post pics when you get your camera back from Morgan (and the ballpark price, if you don't mind), as well as any thoughts on the work.

Here are shots of the cameras Morgan did for me. I seem to recall them being in the $130 neighborhood... don't really recall.

ROFL!!! Excellent! :D

And I realised rather belatedly that I was perhaps being a tad hypocritical given that my Firefox browsers all wear a "walnut" theme...

Thanks for the info on the cost of the leather - I may yet do a wood version, but I'll have 6 months or so to think about it before I'm near a shop again . . . probably won't go with the Rodeo version though!

I've only had the Digilux 2 for about 3 years (got it second hand from a guy who never used it), but I've primarily shot b&w film for the last 15+ years or so - all my digicams were throwaways, better for a day on a sailboat than actually trying to do any photography . . . my bathroom used to pull double duty as a film lab.

I use the Digilux 2 for the same reason that most people use it - it's a well-designed camera. It's primary flaw (the RAW buffer) is minimized because I primarily shoot pictures of relatively stationary targets: buildings :) I also carry around the ridiculously heavy wide-angle converter: it weighs more than the camera, and it significantly drops the stealth factor, but it is nice to have sometimes, particularly inside. When I don't have it, I always seem to wish that I did, but it's definitely an albatross . . . these are a few images that were sitting on the desktop from Tokyo, Osaka, Kyoto, & Nara - I think the 3rd pic (maybe the 4th?) were taken using the wide angle converter . . . .

Pretty obvious that the 3rd AND 4th picture(s) were shot with the converter. The image quality is pretty sad. Certainly doesn't seem worth the bother.

Quite agree, these two look like being washed with something. I would have left it home.
