miami91 Posted August 20, 2009 Share #2 Posted August 20, 2009 Just ordered the Leica (12011) Wideangle external VF..I really find it hard using the small V'lander external.. watch this space for how things pan out.. The Frankenfinder?!?! You're not going to be happy with this decision I predict. This beast is rather ungainly on an M; it's going to dwarf the D-Lux 4 and make camera handling very problematic. You are aware its nearly twice as deep as the D-Lux 4 is thick? (52mm compared to 27mm). Also, fully 3/5 of the available framelines with this finder will be of no use on the D-Lux 4 (16, 18, 21 mm). I hope you own an M and some ultra wide angle lenses, or plan on buying some. This is what the Frankenfinder is designed for (particularly the WATE). Good luck with it though! Jeff. earleygallery Posted August 21, 2009 Share #3 Posted August 21, 2009 12011 Leica Universal Wide Angle Finder M for the TRI-ELMAR-M 16-18-21mm f/4.0 That's a viewfinder I always thought it was a retro style television set! (and somewhat more expensive than the Dlux).
farnz Posted August 21, 2009 Share #4 Posted August 21, 2009 I'm with Jeff on this one, you might be in for a bit of a shock when you open the box if it's for your D-Lux 4. Pete.
lykaman Posted August 21, 2009 Author Share #5 Posted August 21, 2009 I appreciate your comments, I would always wonder if I did not try' I may end up trading the DL4 & accesories for a new M8.2 & seriously thinking it might be time to sell the R6.2 and lenses 28,50,90. Choosing lenses for the M is going to be fun!

bobtodrick Posted August 21, 2009 Share #7 Posted August 21, 2009 Advertisement (gone after registration) When I first got my Dlux4 I also tried the Leica viewfinder and can completely vouch for everything said here. I only had it a week when my dealer showed me the Panasonic version for the LX3...it's literally 1/2 the bulk, 1/3 the price, made of metal instead of plastic..... Me dealer offered to take back the Leica version. Thank god...otherwise I'd be stuck with both of them. Another thing that the size is great for. I bought the Leica everyready case, which of course you can't use with the viewfinder in place. The Panasonic version fits nicely into a plastic 35mm film container, which I have taped to my neckstrap...just like we did in the old says with film. I actually had someone comment when they saw my rig on a cafe table that 'it was great that they are still making cameras with all the digital features that still take film'...he was a bit disappointed when I showed him the viewfinder. lykaman Posted August 21, 2009 Author Share #8 Posted August 21, 2009 Well here is The News, I sold the kids to get the DL4! I admit I was headstrong when I ordered the little beasty" but I will give it a try & if it does not work out..Return it. I loved my M6..but really & truly the M8.2 is just way overpriced..so I need to come to grips with the DL4 (it's shortcomings & Pro's) At the end of the day, "We All did it Our Own Way":D
