M9 - Are these photos real?

Yes! Definitely real. I just bought three of them, paying $8000 each by wire transfer from a very reliable seller in Azerbaizan. I can't wait for them to arrive.

I won't hear a thing against the Azeri people - they're all lovely, and every self respecting photographer in Baku has an M9 (I know this, because I was there in June)

Argh. I've created a monster.

No, it's a fake. I made that sketch almost a year ago and somewhere on this forum there are two very long threads about it.

Hi There - I think they're lovely pictures - they've given me hours of amusement, and you should be congratulated for them.

Ah--you got that money from your windfall earnings on that Nigerian government bankruptcy, right? :)

Of course, come 09/09 (or whenever) we'll likely be giving a virtual slap on the back to thrid for his prescient mock-ups. I mean, how different could the M9 possibly look? It would be shocking for Leica to give up the traditional M form factor, even if they have to add a few mm to a dimension as they did from the M7 to the M8. So it really comes down to the details, such as an additional button or two, or the more informative OLED on the top plate, etc. (things which I personally would favor).

Jeff.

A few mm here and few mm there on each new model, soon my old SLRs will be small and lightweight compared to the new Leicas....

IIRC from Mark's strip down of the M8, the inside was a bit of a cluttered mess. Some careful planning of the interior circuitry could well result in a more efficient use of space with no need to increase the overall body size.

Wait till you take all the blame for it once we all realize that Leica actually did follow you on this one and the M9 actually looks like that. :D

Of course it would be interesting to see how they handle royalties for your design then.

Actually it is interesting to see how things spread on the internet. That sketch and the one of the more traditional design I made have recently shown up on several websites, chat forums and who knows what else. More often than not in languages that I do not understand.

It's a little like standing on your balcony and watching a car accident occur off in the distance.

Yeah, that would be pretty funny until I am tracked down by a mob of retired dentists and beaten to death with their Lugi case clad Leicas.

:-)
