Bo_Lorentzen Posted August 14, 2009 Share #21 Posted August 14, 2009 Advertisement (gone after registration) Scarylink, That is horrible, this could, in a more philosophical world, constitute proof that the photographer rather than the camera is ultimately responsible for the images. Knowing your images I doubt they are all mediocre but maybe all equally elevated above this point. Whats next, a claim that "all cats look black at night" ? . SJP Posted August 14, 2009 Share #25 Posted August 14, 2009 Of course the pictures will be mediocre, but humorous. With 100% cropping I guess they will improve considerably but it might require a few careful commented iterations just to be sure of the optimum treatment. We should however make a point of keeping it M8 specific as otherwise the pics might be (re)moved. Can we post pics of other brands when comparing to M8 files of the same scene? I expect so. BTW where has Frank gone? He was good for plenty of bandwidth....

rwfreund Posted August 14, 2009 Share #30 Posted August 14, 2009 I can surely tell which files are from the P45+, they look horrible in lightroom, but there is a point, 5DII, 1DsIII and M8 files do have a different look, and I really prefer the M8 and they are close, but the P45+, that is a whole other kettle of fish. Ecar Posted August 14, 2009 Share #31 Posted August 14, 2009 A similar thing happened to me a few months ago. I printed all of my photos during one of those dark nights, switched off the lights and, guess what, those taken with a Leica could be instantly recognised as they showed that distinctive "glow":p If you go that route, just make sure you use fine art paper - else the glow may not be visible - and be prepared to spend somewhat more than the cost of disc space... Shootist Posted August 14, 2009 Share #32 Posted August 14, 2009 What was I thinking? For months I have carelessly been organizing my files according to content and date. This of course for future reference. Anyhow, I made the mistake of MIXING my m8 files with the digits from other cameras I use - without any virtual or physical barrier between them!! Today I was searching through some photos and realized I couldn't tell which camera was used for some shots. I zoomed in to some potted plants in the upper left corner at 100%, 200% and on. I looked for CA, contrast, bokeh between Leica glass versus Zeiss, Voigtlander and, gulp, Canon. Somehow the images that were good were because of how I shot them - not because of the camera!! This is a terrible. Those filthy other digits have contaminated my beautiful German wunderkinds. I can't wait for the M9 to come along and finally put me back on track and re-establish the superiority of my consumption to every other camera buyer. I hope alll here learn from my horrible mistake. I wish Leica had given us a warning about mixing photos from different camera manufactures. Do you post anything that is even close to being usefull to anyone on this forum. Such dribble, over and over again. I can clearly see the difference in shots from my M8's the D200 and my old Canon S400 and G9. If you can't then you either need glasses or a new monitor. Or just a life.
Ecar Posted August 14, 2009 Share #33 Posted August 14, 2009 I'll be going pretty close to Frank's neck of the woods in a couple of weeks (Driving down to Monaco and then Genova & Maranello.), would you like for me to look out for him? When you are in Maranello, I suggest you take a look at some of the engineering products manufactured by a well-known local company. Unfortunately, they mostly come in red, although I'm sure you could get a special edition if you ask nicely. Although they may not be as reliable as German ones, and are somewhat more expensive than a Luigi case, they are incredibly stilish and would make a nice accessory for your Leica. If you decide to buy, make sure you listen to the sound made by both their V8 and V12 ranges: IMO, the V8 is a better match to the shutter sound of the M8, whereas the V12 is more suitable for the M8u or M8.2, but that is, obviously, a matter of taste. You could of course get both, but that would be a serious case of GAS... Apologies - I guess I must stop wasting disc space now :D:D

First let me apologize to you. I understand you are the keeper of the flame - representing all that is good with the world. I will mark your ill-tempered, arrogant and humorless rants as simply related to PMS. Pre-M9-Syndrome. Be patient and take a deep breath. You are righteous and will be rewarded by the magnificence of the M9. Oh by the way you can see my work within the gallery as that is where I do most of my posting within this forum. I can outshoot you shootist. Stand back 10 paces and lets see who is left standing. (Scaryink walks away, the sound of his spurs (I really do live in Arizona) reflecting off his old trusty M8). I gotta admit the even I was about to react to the initiating post...I was reaching with my left hand around to the back of my laptop at work to find the little yellow "RANT" button (which, btw, is mounted on the front of my desktop at home) so I could go into "self righteous" mode. But while I was scrolling down the following postings with the my right hand the little bell went "ding". Yeah -- this thread is totally useless and a waste of bits. But August is a slow news month. scaryink Posted August 15, 2009 Author Share #36 Posted August 15, 2009 Would you please post photos illustrating your dilemma.Jeff Jeff thank you for asking Allow an example. While in the Columbus Museum of Art, in the George Bellows room (one of my favorite American ashcan guys) I happened upon his muse who was hovering about one of his works. The first shot was from a no name Japanese aps size sensor digital wannabe, while the second image was shot with the Leica M8 with a sad to say lowly Zeiss 50 1.5. Please notice the more 3d rendering of the figures as opposed to the other. Also you may see the difference in color rendering as well. This is the typical issue I have been rubbing up against. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. I use no fake filtering effect on my work - notice the magenta rendering of the synthetic cloth? This is a dead give away. George Welcome, dear visitor! SJP Posted August 15, 2009 Share #39 Posted August 15, 2009 Yeah -- this thread is totally useless and a waste of bits. But August is a slow news month.Or maybe after 2½ years or so we have discussed all there is to discuss about the M8 and it's siblings. It works, it takes great pictures, SDHC works, AWB works, the filters are here to stay and if you drop it it gets dented and makes a CLUNK sound. Most of the recent threads are a rehashing of previously discussed stuff for the benifit of new users that can't find the required information between all the other postings. BerndReini Posted August 15, 2009 Share #40 Posted August 15, 2009 Yup, turns out the M8 alone does not create great photographs. Kertesz took some great pictures of potted plants and he didn't even have a computer!
