What's Your M9 Confidence Level?

I agree, that's also my only concern. I love the black chrome of the M8 and that's why I never wanted to switch to the black painted M8.2.

Is the black paint on the M8.2 the same as the black paint on the MP? I heard it was more durable. In other words not designed to wear off.

The 9/9/09 event date was made up. Maybe they will decide to use it. Maybe they won't. Either way an announcement doesn't mean it will be ready for sale. I'd actually prefer they show a prototype and take feedback on it but that doesn't seem to be the way they do things.

Riccis--interesting hint, but I'm confused....

Your confidence level is "none whatsoever" that there will be an M9?

Or your hesitation level is "none whatsoever" in getting one when they're announced?

:D

LOL! iPhone typing and not paying enough attention... I meant to say highly confident to get one of the firsts out... Assuming the rumors are true, of course :D

Cheers,

Confidence that an M9 will actually be available before 2010: LOW

Confidence that, if I like the price and specs, that I'll buy the first one I can find: HIGH

When the M8 was introduced, my Leica rep repaid a favor by more or less literally snatching a first-batch M8 off the pallet of cameras going back to Solms to fix the dreaded green blob/reflection problem.

After it had already become public knowledge.

I told her I'd rather have one NOW with problems than LATER without. Never regretted it. Sent the camera in 6 months (and 5,000 pictures) later for the warranty electronics swap to repair the problem, after I got a second body.

Exactly. Meanwhile, all the rumors and speculation are providing some very rich entertainment.

I'm sure within one week after the M9 is in the hands of the forum nut cases, the panic-stricken postings will begin.

Tiny, imperceptible sensor "flaws" will be screamingly attacked as "deal breaking defects".

Some minor operational glitches of a brand new product will be magnified to incredibly huge proportions, and thousands of people who never handled the camera or even have any intention of buying one will begin bashing it, with the same nonsense posted over and over and over and over again.

Insane debates will take place between people who have never seen the camera discussing the merits of the "old" M8 and the M9, even though they have not owned either one.

All very predictable and sure to come.

I actually grabbed one of the first two to hit this fair city. A black & chrome. I got the black! I still have it; plus another now. Aside from the factory recall, the firmware upgrades have kept mine working hard since December 2006.

The reason I jumped straight in was the need for a properly working DRF, despite my Epson RD-1. The early M8 filled that need, and still does. Now, I don't need a FF DRF, but I would like one (or two). So I will wait patiently till it is a reality and then make my choice. "Ah! To buy or not to buy. That is the question!" The answer is the hard part! ;)

That's certainly my plan; and I'll lard my commentary with a fraudulent sincerity and feigned concern for the trials that others are going through, while actually laughing up my sleeve. My first post will be entitled, "Leica must pay for these repairs!!!"

I am confident I will buy one as soon as I can afford it. My first M8 was bad out the box. Solms said it was sensor misalignment. It was all worked out and I am sure it will work out with the M9 but just don't expect it to be speedy.

M8 was Leica's first digital camera; understandably, teething problems were to be expected. IMO, with 3 years now under its belt, an M8.2 and S2 (soon) later, I doubt the M9 -- if it comes when it comes -- would be the fiasco that the M8 was. I am able to 'pre-order' with a 'good chance' of delivery before end-Sept from a local agent (not authorized dealer) for less than the suggested price floating around in the forums lately.

My decision to buy would not be based on confidence of the M9 but rather, in the agent (no local warranty) and also why I'd need a FF M9 when it wouldn't be bringing home the bacon...

Spot on! ;)

And the brigade of Leica denigraters/armchair CEOs (you know who you are) will trumpet "The sky is falling" "Why didn't they do what I said?" etc. etc. :p:rolleyes:

Such Little Faith.

Of course, the M9 will have everything everyone wanted, and nothing that anybody didn't want, the files will be perfect, and we'll all live happily ever after:)

. . . . and nobody will complain, praises will be liberally heaped upon Leica for the fantastic job they have done.
