JBA Posted August 10, 2009 Share #1 Posted August 10, 2009 Advertisement (gone after registration) Does it actually serve some function to have to wait 30 seconds between searches on the forum? Slight variations of the search terms often turn up qute different results, but having to wait 30 seconds between searches gets very time-consuming. I've never encountered this anywhere else. Couldn't this be done away with?

stunsworth Posted August 10, 2009 Share #4 Posted August 10, 2009 Maybe it's due to the load that a search puts on the forum's database?

JBA Posted August 10, 2009 Author Share #7 Posted August 10, 2009 Advertisement (gone after registration) It's not a matter of impatience, it's a matter of efficiency. Earlier, I searched using three different search criteria and on any other forum would have taken me approximately 15 seconds instead of over a minute and a half. As it turned out, none of the searches yielded a single result, even though when I eventually found the post I was looking for after clicking through page after page, it contained the words I'd entered in the search. Quite a discouraging waste of time.
andybarton Posted August 10, 2009 Share #8 Posted August 10, 2009 I would expect it's set up that way so as to prevent the database getting bogged down with continually searching for things. It's a very common set up in my experience, as is a "No second post within 2 minutes" type of rule.
Marty Posted August 10, 2009 Share #9 Posted August 10, 2009 +1, meanwhile there is always Google where you can add site:www.l-camera-forum.com to your search terms...

stunsworth Posted August 11, 2009 Share #11 Posted August 11, 2009 Sometimes it is so s..l...o...w... The only time you should find it slow is about 1 am CET when the database is backed up - that usually lasts about 10 minutes. Other than that I haven't noticed a problem. NZDavid Posted August 11, 2009 Share #12 Posted August 11, 2009 Depends on your internet speed. (See my previous post.) Seems to be going OK now but varies quite a bit.
rob_x2004 Posted August 11, 2009 Share #13 Posted August 11, 2009 I wish you could simply open a post and read it in less than 30 seconds. Sometimes it is so s..l...o...w... This is the slowest site I come across, though admittedly Im not a member nor go on any other prawn sites. I open everything in a new tab, walk away and come back later. The place got worse with the animated ads, and I know its probably due to connect speeds at my end but theres nothing I can do about that. This place just seems top heavy, and the ads need to dl clean before the threads come up. I get a lot of times out images. If the improtant stuff loaded first I would be happier, but then I guess I would be out of the thread before seeing the adverts for games, brides, ads for discontinued leica, making love to leica, all that important stuff.
