The shutter activation count is not kept in/on any of the shutter electronics (at least not on any that are changed with the shutter upgrade). So the camera electronic don't know that the shutter has been changed and in any event the count is really to tell how many times the Cameras shutter/s has opened and closed irrespective of whether you had one shutter in the camera or 5 shutters in the camera. Simple to find out what the count is on the new shutter. Look at the last shot taken before you sent the camera in for the upgrade and subtract that form the total. cbretteville Posted August 8, 2009 Share #3 Posted August 8, 2009 We should all remember that the exif tag used to store the information is "Unique image id", as such the number of actuations are implicit provided it is the original shutter that sits in the camera. When the upgrades were started I was really anctious to see if the maker notes tag that has the same value was changed after a shutter upgrade, but it isn't. That seems to be the case of all of us. hoppyman Posted August 8, 2009 Share #5 Posted August 8, 2009 Hi Sander, yes the same here. It is probably a unique situation where our M8s have had that transplant. Still it is easy to tell the pre-upgrade count from looking at the last few pre-upgrade photos. In my case they show the Leica technicians in Customer Service! I attended the Forum Hessenpark meetings and did the tour . That was a Friday and my camera was ready to be picked up on the Monday! One other interesting point is that I put my SD card into the M8.2 that customer service cheerfully loaned me, matched the settings to mine and my file number sequence continued perfectly. That is really convenient as my file storage uses that number. Since I have always kept the numbers synchronised when upgrading firmware, the last file number always reflected the exact number of shutter actuations (the same as the unique ID). Now of course they are about 500 apart from a Hessenpark weekend with the other camera. I can live with that Thanks Shootist and Carl for the explanation! Both after the upgrade and a CLA I had in May, I got my camera back with the L999xxxx filenumbers.
