topoxforddoc Posted August 9, 2009 Share #41 Posted August 9, 2009 Advertisement (gone after registration) i care about the image quaility produced and a camera body that performs the functions i need....... 5 fps, focus confirmation, auto-focus options, auto iso, manual over ride, great out of the box jpegs, great auto white balance, quiet, works well with flash, looks good, etc..... Quite correct about the first bit. Not so sure about the last bit. For me, manual everything is the order of the day. I can't see Doug Herr wanting auto-everything (certainly not autofocus or focus confirmation) I shoot in RAW and I don't care about the WB - adjust that later in LR, Aperture, C1 or whatever takes your fancy. Maybe I'm just a dinsoaur. Charlie

J Mitchum Posted August 10, 2009 Share #42 Posted August 10, 2009 R lens 4/3rds adapters were all ready in the market when he made his announcement. If all he meant was putting a red dot on one and selling it under the Leica name he was surely misleading the R enthusiasts. Well, they were saying the R10 was a go up until that very day and then... poof! ...so I take what they say with a grain of salt. It could be an "intelligent" adaptor made in cooperation with another manufacturer but it would have to be someone without much of a lens lineup. Panasonic springs to mind and they have a business partnership already.
Hektor6644 Posted August 11, 2009 Share #43 Posted August 11, 2009 Hi: It could be that Leica is talking about the D-Lux 5 for two very compelling reasons. Firstly, I just ordered my D-Lux 4 (due to arrive this Thursday.) It never fails. As soon as I order something, the new version is announced a month down the road with enough lag time that I cannot return the item I purchased. On a more serious tone, right after I ordered the D-Lux 4, from B&H, it became “Out-of-Stock.” B&H is also “Out-of-Stock” or "Back Ordered" with the D-Lux 4 kits and the Panasonic LX-3 and its kits. Adorama is in the same situation with both cameras and their corresponding kits. It could be that both cameras are selling like hot cakes or that they are not longer manufactured. Hektor6644 Posted August 12, 2009 Share #45 Posted August 12, 2009 Hi: The following is what I read and understand which can be very wrong. Panasonic will announce the successor to the LX-3 (the LX-5 – “4” is an unlucky number in the Japanese Culture just like “13” is, in the Western Culture) in Photokina 2010 or around March 2010, in Anaheim, California. In addition, Leica is also due to announce the successor to the D-Lux 4 at the same show. The Panasonic September 1-2 announcement is for the GF1, a micro 4/3 camera with the 20mm f/1.7 as the kit lens. It remains to be seen if Leica will follow through with their counterpart or the D-Lux 4 will be the last of this series, replacing it with the micro 4/3 system, in the future. In addition, it would be interesting to see if Panasonic will market their 4/3 lenses as Leica or Panasonic. Many of these questions will be answered this September, I guess.
