Guest BigSplash Posted August 5, 2009 Share #1 Posted August 5, 2009 Advertisement (gone after registration) My understanding is that: > In various threads it has been suggested that 9 Sept ( ie 9/9/09) may see the M9 announced. > Separately there is the rumour that Phase One has already referred to M9 filters in its latest software release > Another thread suggests that M8 is under price pressure and stocks are being sold off...actually I have seen mixed signals on this. > Stefan Daniels suggested at recent Solms factory visit that M8.3 will be launched if last few remaining technical issues for a full frame M9 are not resolved in the near term (taken to mean Sept. ..possibly Oct) Is there anything more on this subject ...a release date? a specification? luigi bertolotti Posted August 5, 2009 Share #5 Posted August 5, 2009 Let's wait for our Forum Admin decide to setup the "M9 subforum" ... for now, would be a pure rumor area...
epand56 Posted August 5, 2009 Share #6 Posted August 5, 2009 I had rumours about the M9 descending on the edge of Mount Everest in a bright cone of light and choir of angels... Still miss the date.

marknorton Posted August 5, 2009 Share #8 Posted August 5, 2009 Actually Frank, I heard that what was holding up the release of the M9 is that the integrated bellows feature is not ready.
wattsy Posted August 5, 2009 Share #9 Posted August 5, 2009 One thing is sure. Many of those who have recently stated that the M8 is plenty for their needs, that it is wonderful, that it will only be obsolete when it breaks, etc. will be desperate for the M9 as soon as it is announced. Once obtained, the M8 will become a dirty byword in digital M photography. IR filters which were once a "non-issue" will be seen as the ludicrous anachronism they have always been and the 1.3x cropped sensor will be seen as a terrible waste of Leica lenses. Part of me is almost hoping the M9 will have a CMOS sensor just so that I can read various past dismissers of this technology (too "plastic", "not sharp enough") going through hoops to justify why it's now perfect.
