JLV Posted August 4, 2009 Share #1 Posted August 4, 2009 Advertisement (gone after registration) Hi all , I thought that it was not possible to know how many shots were taken with an M8 (I bought mine second hand) and on the add section of the forum, there is a M8 for sale where the saler indicates "shutter actuation 6 172". Is there a way to get this information on each M8? Thanks, Jean-Luc
Advertisement Posted August 4, 2009 Posted August 4, 2009 Hi JLV, Take a look here Shutter actuation?. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
ArtZ Posted August 4, 2009 Share #2 Posted August 4, 2009 You can see that, for instance, on Adobe Bridge. On the EXIF you will see a field "Image Unique ID". This should look like sommething like this 000000000000000000000000000013DD This figure is in HEX (Hexadecimal) so you have to convert it into DEC (Decimal). You can do that using Windows Calculator on Scientific mode. You select "HEX", you enter the number (not necessary the leading zeros, in this case you enter just 13DD) and you select now "DEC". You will get 5085. That's the number of shutter actuations
JLV Posted August 4, 2009 Author Share #3 Posted August 4, 2009 Merci Artz, I don't have Adobe bridge but Lightroom 2. Is there another soft that could give me this information?. In any case thanks a lot. jean-Luc

JLV Posted August 4, 2009 Author Share #5 Posted August 4, 2009 Hi Jaapv, Thanks a lot, I will do that. All the best, Jean-Luc
SJP Posted August 4, 2009 Share #6 Posted August 4, 2009 Irfanview has a EXIF reading plugin exif.dll that should work I think (I can't install it at work to try it out). IrfanView - Official Homepage - one of the most popular viewers worldwide but Jaap's photome suggestions looks more convenient. You can use google to convert hex to decimal, example "0x13DD to decimal" gives 5085 see here
john_newell Posted August 4, 2009 Share #7 Posted August 4, 2009 Advertisement (gone after registration) There was another thread with links and info in this forum perhaps two weeks ago - you might want to search for that as well. Short version is that, as others said above, it is possible and not even that hard.
