NB23 Posted August 5, 2009 Share #41 Posted August 5, 2009 Advertisement (gone after registration) Wilfredo, the only problem with your logic is that when you buy the $1,500 M8 and it suffers a failure you really bought a $3,000 M8. I think the problem with his logic is the word "here". I doubt that this forum is a pulse of the market. Perhaps quite the contrary, just as the other forums. Internet forums usually attract the used market fondlers and no real users. The real buyers, the collectors, and the S2 users, don't want to have to justify their purchase to a crowd of self-styled critics or self-styled week-end Leica managers. Just look at the White M8: People generally laugh about it on the net. However, in real life, the buyers have no time and no will to justify their purchase to forum crowds. They simply buy happily and keep Leica alive. The S2 users are probably in a plane going on an important shoot, half-way around the globe or in a huge loft on some 20th floor shooting for corporations and making big bucks. What's the point on participating in a forum of fondlers when you lead such a charged and probably succesful professional life? And when I say Fondlers, I include myself. We are simply the loud minority from Whom Leica makes near zero Dollars. We "here" definitely do not create nor represent a market tendency.
Advertisement Posted August 5, 2009 Posted August 5, 2009 Hi NB23, Take a look here M8 Price Drops. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
barjohn Posted August 5, 2009 Share #42 Posted August 5, 2009 NB23, Some of what you say may be true, especially in relation to the S2; however, I would venture that the vast majority on this forum have owned at least one or more digital Leica's and probably one or more film Leica's. Hence, I think that makes many of us more than just fondlers whatever else we may be.
wilfredo Posted August 5, 2009 Author Share #43 Posted August 5, 2009 I agree with John, many of us have invested significantly in Leica, at the same time I can only reason that buyers of the S2 are high end elite pros making really big bucks but how many of those are there around? At the end of the day I'm a satisfied M8 owner, this camera has given me plenty of keepers and it remains the best photographic tool I have ever purchased despite its limitations (I've gone through an M6, M7. MP, and I currently have an M2 in addition to the M8) . Life is full of surprises, who knows, maybe one day an S2 will fall on my lap with a bunch of lenses and I'll use it to change the world for the better, one never knows. NB23 Posted August 6, 2009 Share #46 Posted August 6, 2009 I only wish that were true:rolleyes: I said "near" I would appreciate if you could explain to me how Leica makes money out of "hardcore" leica users that constantly conmplain about Leica's "insane" high prices and only buy and sell used equipment. Hardly profitable.
