I am thrilled, got my brand new M8 today. But I went to install the software and both disks read "an unexpected error occurred". Does anyone have a link for the newest version of the correct Leica software that I need?!

Thanks,

Justin

BTW, I downloaded Capture One from a site, but its only 30 days. Is there better software or is this the one to buy... (Sorry, I've been shooting with an M6 for 12 years.)

Ok, well that explains it. Suggestions for us up-to-date Mac users?! Also, are people more often shooting in the DNG format for best results? Sorry for all the noob questions, and thanks in advance for the assistance. There are so many pages that come up with search...

In M8 circles you will be hard put to find a Jpg.. Yes shoot DNG for best results. You can use the code from your CD to unlock the software from the site afaik.

Go to the Capture One website for Mac updates. Use the code that came with your disks.

Enter the serial number that shipped with the copy of Capture One LE in the box and the downloaded version will unlock as a full version of LE.

If you have tried to install the older version of C1, you may have created a Capture One library in your pictures folder, a capture one folder in user/library/application support and a Capture One folder in Applications. You must remove all these before reinstalling the later version of C1. In user/library/preferences, remove all plist files starting com.phase..... Finally delete these from your trash before starting the new install. You may need to get a new registration code from Phase One. During weekdays, I have found their response time excellent only remembering time zones (they are in Denmark). Hope all this helps

Leica should ban jpeg from this camera. If not hardware ban, then software

I'm sorry, but I disagree with you. I use both DNG and JPG on my M8, and find that the advantages of having both outweighs the penalty of in-camera processing time and battery life. I don't use my camera like a machine gun, and so the extra processing time doesn't cause me any problems anyway. When away from home, I normally take a small portable die-sub printer with me. This is extremely useful for making 15 x 10 (6" x 4") prints to hand out on location, get a much better review of the photograph that one can on the LCD, and also allows me to send post-cards with the scene that I want to send. I couldn't do this without the JPG files. Also, I find the in-camera JPG processing is able to produce quite acceptable results for prints of that size, and I still have the DNG files for more detailed processing when I return home.

There are many other benefits of having JPG files as an option. Ask any news or sports photographer.
