andybarton Posted July 29, 2009 Author Share #4 Posted July 29, 2009 They have international postage rates... Just ordered a Tri-X shot. Will report back when it arrives.
earleygallery Posted July 29, 2009 Share #5 Posted July 29, 2009 Interesting concept - not new I know - of taking a film image, digitally tweaking it then printing traditionally! Best of all worlds. Film users are sometimes berated for scanning and printing in inkjet "but that's just the same as digital / why bother shooting film if you're going to 'photograph' it with a digital camera etc. etc. With this process I guess those using digital camera files could be berated in the same way Interested to see what you think Andy - I'm working on a project and this could be useful for an exhibition I'd like to hold. akiralx Posted July 29, 2009 Share #7 Posted July 29, 2009 Advertisement (gone after registration) I will try this out later today. Welcome to the ILFORD Lab Direct website - Black and white photo prints | Silver Gelatin prints | Black and white film processing prints | Black and White Prints from Film | Black and White Prints from Digital | Ilford Lab | Film processing lab I've used this service for my last 4 rolls - not cheap, although the prints are excellent but the scans to CD are not so good, too contrasty. andybarton Posted July 29, 2009 Author Share #8 Posted July 29, 2009 I process my own. I am having a 15 x 11" print done of my Imperial War Museum photograph.
cocker Posted July 31, 2009 Share #9 Posted July 31, 2009 Mine are back this morning. Fast service and well packaged. I printed out one on my Epson 3800 on glossy paper for comparison. The Ilford is very good but my own printed version is a tad sharper. Tonal range and density are very similar. It's an excellent service for those who have an average or no printer or want an occasional high quality print. For those with a high end printer you won't see any difference and can do it yourself much more cheaply. But the Ilford paper does smell nice!!! Photoskeptic Posted July 31, 2009 Share #10 Posted July 31, 2009 If they would only do this in USA. I would promise to shoot a whole lot more film. Really guys, I promise
martinis Posted July 31, 2009 Share #11 Posted July 31, 2009 I think 7 day shop is the cheapest place for the mailers, cheaper than the prices on the website.I called ilford and you can order a cd by putting a note in with your film if needs be. andybarton Posted July 31, 2009 Author Share #12 Posted July 31, 2009 My print arrived today in a big cardboard envelope with DO NOT BEND written on it You can guess the rest. It looks like someone has sat on it. They need to take a leaf out of Photobox's book, whose packaging is exemplorary. The print isn't bad, but not as good as I was expecting, to be frank. Shows either the limitations of scanning then wet printing, or my photography. Never been disappointed with a Photobox print though...
