Can't make a decision 28 cron or 24 elmarit to use on M8

i'm currently using 35 cron great lens but sometime the frame is a bit too tight. 28 is not much wider but i can still use f2 for indoor shoot. The elmarit has better coverage but i'll lose one stop.i like to shoot indoor environment portrait .. what would u do? can't afford both right now ;)

There has been much discussion about these two lenses lately on the forum, try a search.

 

I had both lenses, and I rarely use my 28 'Cron on the M8. Especially if you like your 35 I think the 28 is a bit close for the M8.

 

The 24 became my favorite M8 lens as soon as I got it. I've since traded it towards a 24 'Lux. But in my opinion the 24 is the best focal length for the M8, and it would definitely make a nice combo with your 35mm.

Welcome to the forum and congratulations on being the winner of the longest forum name. :D

 

I had the 35 Summicron aspherical and loved it but found it to be a little tight on occasion and a little loose on others so I replaced it with a 28 Summicron aspherical and a 50 Summilux aspherical and haven't regretted it since. This may not be the answer for you but unless you're going for a single lens kit then your decision should take into account any longer lenses you have and the focal length gap.

I have the 28 'cron and am hoping to make the 18/3.8 Super Elmar my next wide lens.

 

It would be great if it were a bit faster, like f/2.8 though. I know - there's always the 21/2.8 Elmarit is an option but for some reason, the 18/3.8 is calling my name; I like the little extra width.

 

I like the 21/1.4 Summilux - the photos it produces are amazing. But Holy Moses, the price tag on that thing...

That's the best combination for the M8/ M8.2 (from practical, not collectors! point of view) ;)

I personally have never liked the 28mm FL on a full frame camera, so the perfect complement to my 35 Cron ASPH is the 24 Elmarit (fabulous lens BTW).

 

I also love the 24 ASPH on my M8, just a great combination with a 50mm lens (Lux in my case).

 

I understand people really like the 28 Cron ASPH, but it doesn't do it for me on my M6, and when the M9 comes out, it will be the same thing. So, I have ignored the 28mm FL for both my M6 and M8 work, and a future M9 will be.......24, 35, 50, 90.

I would go for the 28/2 (again) if I was starting over. On the M8 it is close to the traditional 35 mm on film/FF so it is easy to switch from M2 + summaron 35/2.8 to the M8 with 28 cron and vice-versa.

 

I have no regrets buying this lens. There was a list/poll on "the best" M-lens and the 28cron ranked no.2 just after the 50lux, if I recall correctly.

 

EDIT: 18 - 24 - 35 - (50) - 75 that is one option the other is 15 - 28 - 50 - 90 - 135

I had the 24 and for me it was either to wide or to narrow. I find if I'm going out with 2 lenses I take the 28, in my case the Elmarit ASPH, and the 50 Lux ASPH, just like Farnz.

If I'm going out with just one lens it most of the time is the 35 Cron ASPH.

 

To be honest the 24mm FL is the one lens I could do without and still feel I wasn't missing something in my lens lineup. That is why I sold mine and haven't missed it one bit.

 

I still zoom with my feet no matter what FL lens I have on the camera.
