ptarmigan Posted July 20, 2009 Share #1 Posted July 20, 2009 Advertisement (gone after registration) Not tried to hook up my M8 to the iMac before but couldn't get the CF/SD multi reader to be recognised and so thought I would try - but nothing visible in Finder and if I disconnect - no complaints from the Mac. As soon as I pop a CF card in the reader 'up' it pops in Finder but no go with either the camera or SD card. Any suggestions? Only had the M8 3 weeks and the SD card/reader has worked before but it was not always recognised immediately but today - nothing!
Advertisement Posted July 20, 2009 Posted July 20, 2009 Hi ptarmigan, Take a look here M* (nor card reader with SD card) recognised by Mac. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
jaapv Posted July 20, 2009 Share #2 Posted July 20, 2009 I cannot help you (I am on PC) but I know there is a shoal of threads on the subject. The search function will help you dig them out.
teemulaine Posted July 20, 2009 Share #3 Posted July 20, 2009 You should use either Image Capture or iPhoto as my understanding is that M8 / M8.2 don't show up as disk drive. Both applications are provided with OSX and are easily located with Spotlight.
ptarmigan Posted July 20, 2009 Author Share #4 Posted July 20, 2009 Jaap Thanks. Have done a search but found nothing yet! Will have to try a different search.

Bizarrely I downloaded using my 12-1 card reader several times but just checked and the one I own does not support SDHC - actually, only just used the SDHC this weekend - all previous 'shoots' were with a 2gb SD card! Thanks anyway. Will try as suggested but having hooked the M8 up to my Mac, it seems to have drained the battery!
wlaidlaw Posted July 20, 2009 Share #6 Posted July 20, 2009 You have to run Image Capture (should be in Applications under iDVD - see screen print) just once and your M8 will thereafter connect via the cable. Generally this is not recommended - see dozens of threads - a card reader or if it has it, a direct SD slot on your computer is safer and faster. If you cannot find Image Capture PM me and I will email you a copy or you can do an Archive Reinstall of your system and it should appear. Walt Calahan Posted July 20, 2009 Share #7 Posted July 20, 2009 Advertisement (gone after registration) Sounds like a bad card reader. Have you tested by borrowing someone else's?
wlaidlaw Posted July 20, 2009 Share #8 Posted July 20, 2009 Sounds like a bad card reader. Have you tested by borrowing someone else's? I had to change all but one of my readers and my Macally combined USB hub and card reader to read SDHC cards. My new Macbook has a built in card reader - very useful but stupidly it is SDHC only and is not firmware upgradeable to the new SDXC standard. andybarton Posted July 20, 2009 Share #9 Posted July 20, 2009 Lots of older card readers don't read newer SD cards It pays to buy a new reader each time you move forwards with the card technology Ridiculous, really
microview Posted July 20, 2009 Share #10 Posted July 20, 2009 Bizarrely I downloaded using my 12-1 card reader several times but just checked and the one I own does not support SDHC - actually, only just used the SDHC this weekend - all previous 'shoots' were with a 2gb SD card! I found my Fuji card reader (fine for SD) not recognised by iMac when loaded with SDHC, so I had to buy a Sandisk reader (fine with both types of storage card). Download was faster however with the SD files, so a worthwhile replacement. Image Capture ought to be in the Mac Applications folder. although it's not a good idea to connect M8 direct to computer, not least because of the fragility of the plastic door on the camera. Just ordered one. In the meantime, downloaded images via iCapture but will switch back to the 2gb card until the new reader arrives I think as it will make life easier.
