wijayane Posted July 13, 2009 Share #1 Posted July 13, 2009 Advertisement (gone after registration) For those who acquire their cameras in a brand-new condition, do you ever go crazy when you start to see the first sign or even the small minor scratches that start to appear on the camera body? I mean we all know that one day the camera will age and some signs that it has been used start to show, but for the first time you see it do you have any reaction? Just wanna know. ^__^
Advertisement Posted July 13, 2009 Posted July 13, 2009 Hi wijayane, Take a look here ** ever got crazy over the first sign of scratch ? **. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
stunsworth Posted July 13, 2009 Share #2 Posted July 13, 2009 Stuff happens. Nothing to worry about at all IMHO.
earleygallery Posted July 13, 2009 Share #3 Posted July 13, 2009 I'm more worried about getting scratches on my negs, they matter, scratches on cameras dont. If I buy a new car the first thing I do is make a small scratch in the bodywork, saves worrying about shopping trolly scrapes in car parks and the like. wijayane Posted July 13, 2009 Author Share #4 Posted July 13, 2009 Thanks guys. Just want to know general reactions. I'm for one, get a bit worried about little non-sense things, but fortunately this feeling goes away in no time. Maybe a litte too crazy. But as for a new car, little scratches make me flip but after awhile using it nothing will make me worry. That's a good idea making a small scratch so you won't be worried about its imperfection in the future. ^__^
bobtodrick Posted July 13, 2009 Share #5 Posted July 13, 2009 Not a worry at all. I recently purchased one of the few remaining Barnack commemortive cameras, replicating the Prototype 2 (fixed 50mm, with the optical finder as opposed to the wire frames of the O camera). Got it for a steal...under $800. I'm amazed...that people are amazed that I'm going to use it. What's the point of a camera that doesn't take photos?...and if you're going to take photos at some time it's going to get marred. So be it. Now, the time when I was shooting a wedding, and a drunk best man spilled his rum and coke all over my F3...that pissed me off!
peter_n Posted July 13, 2009 Share #6 Posted July 13, 2009 Last year I bought an MP3 from my local dealer and people seemed horrified that I was going to use it. Then I turn it over and lo and behold it is scratched up on the back. The previous owner had a metal belt buckle or something. Now suddenly the camera can be used - the scratches made it comparatively "worthless". I really don't understand this mentality. Anyway don't worry about the scratches or the little nicks or whatever. These are very good cameras, they last a lifetime, and these little scuffs are reminders of our use of them. ddp Posted July 13, 2009 Share #7 Posted July 13, 2009 Advertisement (gone after registration) My MP3 is starting to wear nicely...i bought it to use pure & simple. I do understand the first scratch thinking though, but I am a bit hard on most things I won - cameras, cars, etc. It's bound to happen.

It is a perfectly natural human reaction with anything that we have when suddenly there is a mark on it, call it frustration or annoyance but there is nothing wrong with owning our feelings

antistatic Posted July 14, 2009 Share #10 Posted July 14, 2009 If I remember, you got yourself a black MP. It is designed to look cooler, the more it get scratched. Think of it as your MPs unique fingerprint.
wijayane Posted July 14, 2009 Author Share #11 Posted July 14, 2009 Yes that's right the BP. Thanks, David. That's another good way of thinking. It's probably like having a child and if that child is having a mole or a little this and that, I will still love that child anyway :-)
