QDIEM4SC Posted July 13, 2009 Share #1 Posted July 13, 2009 Advertisement (gone after registration) Hi everybody, This is my first post here, so please forgive me for any break from established protocol. I have been using my M8 now for almost six months, and have become addicted to the experience. Almost six months ago, I sold off my D3 and my pro Nikon lenses and bought the M8 and the Elmarit 28. It was a crazy move, because I didn't know how I would get along with this decidedly different photographic animal. But, among other things, I had this vision of driving through the Southwest US desert with this portable camera by my side. I had grown tired of carrying the D3, even though I believed it was the greatest camera I had ever used. I finally made the trip last week, departing from my Canadian homeland for a week. And although I now own a 50 lux asph, I kept it simple and packed just the M8 and the Elmarit 28. The point of this? I guess I'm just excited about my 2nd photographic life and wanted to share some photos. If anybody is interested, please have a look at them: Zenfolio | QDIEM4SC | Nevada-Arizona-California 2009 Thanks for your time, Peter.

ashwinrao1 Posted July 13, 2009 Share #3 Posted July 13, 2009 Peter, Great to see you here. I very rarely post here, but had to say that I enjoyed your whole Zenfolio series. Thanks for sharing! I, too, am in love with rangefinder photography, though I did keep my SLR set up for those times when it was needed (sports, fast moving stuff)... Best, Ashwin
Fotomiguel Posted July 13, 2009 Share #4 Posted July 13, 2009 Hi Peter! Welcome. A rangefinder camera is a new world to discover. I keep on learning. I used nikon analog cameras and I changed to a M8 some years ago. It's an incredible camera and allows you to take the most of your photograph skills. Be careful with the edition. I would try a smoother edition. Sometimes too much contrast and saturation can damage the lovely m8 files. Cheers.
JLV Posted July 13, 2009 Share #5 Posted July 13, 2009 Hi Peter, Welcome to the forum! My last post was talking about how addictive is the M8. You have gotten a great combo with the small, convenient and sharp 28 elmarit and the one of a kind 50 lux asph. I liked very much your pics on your Zenfolio site. It reminded me fantastic memories of trips I did when I was 20 in the south west (30 years ago). Enjoy and post as much as you want. All the best, Jean-Luc
Gentleman Villain Posted July 13, 2009 Share #6 Posted July 13, 2009 Hi Peter, Thanks for posting. I live in that part of the Southwest and it's really interesting to see the pictures you posted of familiar places.
gwelland Posted July 13, 2009 Share #7 Posted July 13, 2009 Advertisement (gone after registration) Hi Peter, Welcome to the M8 community! You're obviously enjoying the pleasure of the M8 for travel photography and the freedom for bulky cameras that go with it. Very nice travel log shots. I'm a Nikon shooter and can totally understand your decision, however difficult, to swap from arguably the best full frame DSLR and lenses to a much simpler Leica outfit. I held on to mine and use them for more considered landscape photography (i.e. low light scenics, tripod, HDR etc) but whenever possible reach for M8 outfit when I travel. Have fun with the M8! Marty Posted July 13, 2009 Share #8 Posted July 13, 2009 Hi Peter, I always enjoy your pictures on the "other" forum, and these are no exception. It's interesting how many including myself arrived here from the D3 or similar. What ever is wrong with that camera
Steve Ash Posted July 13, 2009 Share #9 Posted July 13, 2009 Very nice series. I especially like the night shot with your daughter(?) and the crocodile. Regards Steve

Marquinius Posted July 13, 2009 Share #12 Posted July 13, 2009 Peter, hi and welcome. Nice start! And M8/28mm is "it". BTW: if you want people to comment, it helps if you post your photos straight on the forum iso via a link .
QDIEM4SC Posted July 13, 2009 Author Share #13 Posted July 13, 2009 I woke up this morning to find some familiar names, and some wonderful comments too! I would want to thank each of you individually, but I'm not sure about the protocol for that too. So, I'll just say: thank you so much, to everybody who took the time to look and to comment. If I could afford a 2nd M8, I would snap one up in a heartbeat! Peter.
Fotomiguel Posted July 13, 2009 Share #14 Posted July 13, 2009 Be careful with the edition. I would try a smoother edition. Sometimes too much contrast and saturation can damage the lovely m8 files. Fotomiguel, please could you say what you mean here, appologies i am a newbie . Thanks. It happened to me when I moved to digital. The edidion can improve the files or can do unreal images. The contrast, saturation or even sharpening must be apply very carefuly. When I retire I will edit again many of my pictures. When you do it in a correct way, the Leica files are really incredible. wda Posted July 13, 2009 Share #15 Posted July 13, 2009 Welcome, Peter. I enjoyed both your enthusiasm and your travel pictures which, to English eyes, conveyed convincing impressions of an unfamiliar landscape. Loved the little girl who intruded into your masterpieces! I particularly liked #4 which combined beautiful lighting with the scaling factor of humans in a vast landscape. The fine 35mm Elmarit showed Leica performance at its best. Well done! gwelland Posted July 13, 2009 Share #18 Posted July 13, 2009 I think that 'edition' is probably a mistranslation - pretty sure he is referring to post production of the images.
mikki Posted July 13, 2009 Share #19 Posted July 13, 2009 Nice photos!! I made the same strange move as you did a couple of weeks ago. Don't think i'll ever regret it.
vdb Posted July 13, 2009 Share #20 Posted July 13, 2009 Welcome aboard. No doubt you are comfortable with the M8 base on the quality of your images. Excellent tonal/color range and management of light. I would encourage you to post in the photo section as many more will see them and comment.
