chuckw Posted July 10, 2009 Share #1 Posted July 10, 2009 Advertisement (gone after registration) A question for those who use a Gordy's camera strap (the neck strap) with your M8 / M8.2s. Is the weight of the camera, with maybe a 75 mm lens mounted, enough that a neck pad is required? I am thinking of ordering the strap w/o the neck pad as it looks like just an extra single width of leather to me. But, if the neck pad really does make a difference I'll make sure to order one. I have a strap from Gordy... I have the pad on it... But my motivation was more for looks (I liked the look of the dark leather strap, light leather pad and tan twine) I also had him add the red twine the the area where the strap is (Like he does on the sling) I would say add it and see if you like it (You can always remove it by cutting it off)... BTW - the strap is Great!
Kittyphoto Posted July 11, 2009 Share #3 Posted July 11, 2009 I am using one with M8. The quality is great. The leather is very thick. Highly recommend! kitty
chuckw Posted July 11, 2009 Author Share #4 Posted July 11, 2009 Thanks for the responses. It looks like the safe thing to do would be to get the neck pad, as stated I could always cut it off if I didn't find it necessary. Chuck
SiOnara Posted March 14, 2010 Share #5 Posted March 14, 2010 Is it ok to hang the weight of the M8 plus a lens off only one side of the strap holders? I love the sling design but I am a bit nervous the holder may break on the camera body.
jpmac55 Posted March 15, 2010 Share #6 Posted March 15, 2010 Is it ok to hang the weight of the M8 plus a lens off only one side of the strap holders? I love the sling design but I am a bit nervous the holder may break on the camera body. The M8 strap holders appear strong enough but Gordy's sling gizmo didn't work out for me. Taking pictures was fine but the camera didn't stay still while walking around. I had to hold it against my side which was a pain. I lost a Leica lens cap the first day I tried it out. Your results may vary, especially if you return the camera back into a carrying bag. If you do that, the sling performs quite well.
SiOnara Posted March 15, 2010 Share #7 Posted March 15, 2010 Advertisement (gone after registration) Hummm I had a feeling it might not be too stable. I might just go for the traditional Gordy strap and get it a bit longer to wear it across the body style.

epand56 Posted March 15, 2010 Share #9 Posted March 15, 2010 Is it ok to hang the weight of the M8 plus a lens off only one side of the strap holders? I love the sling design but I am a bit nervous the holder may break on the camera body. It's two years that the Sling is mounted on my M8 and it is still like it was the first day. I always use it, even with the TE 135 mounted on the camera. It is an outstanding prop to me since i do not like to carry the camera hanging from my neck. When shooting is always in my hand with the Sling and when resting it hangs from my Y strap. Anyway, with the ring on it is very unlikely that the sling may loose. hudsong Posted March 15, 2010 Share #10 Posted March 15, 2010 Gordy's straps are phenomenal. I received one in the mail yesterday, and it is just perfect. My favorite part about it is the grippiness of the leather, even on my rain coat. I've had a lot of problems with cameras sliding around when I ride my bike while carrying them, which is very annoying and dangerous for the camera. Gordy's is perfect so far. The strap is 43.5" long with a neck pad.
Pachuco Posted March 16, 2010 Share #11 Posted March 16, 2010 No worries with a Gordy Strap. I use one with my M8 and it holds up fine, I don't even have the additional pad.
henry lesesne Posted March 16, 2010 Share #12 Posted March 16, 2010 This is not directly related to Gordy's strap but may be worth mentioning. I have Luigi's strap in black. It is comfortable with the M8 and the smallish 28mm Elmarit. It is not cheap however it is absolutely of the best quality in design, materials , and workmanship. I would buy another one without hesitating. Best Wishes
