M8 : red lining. Maybe a new problem ?

I've found maybe a new problem with the M8.

I've noticed vertical red or magenta line on some pictures when I view them at 100%.

Pascal Méheut told me that it was maybe a problem of raw conversion but I can't remove them even if I use the "pattern noise suppression" of capture one...

Here some crop (open your eyes because it's quite difficult to notice at first sight)

So look closely at your own picture to see if you also have this problem...

look like jpg

I assume not, and it is also in the raw?

I am 20/20 but sorry you need to help me, I just cant see it

also, print out

remeber screens are 72-96 DPI not 240 to 300 of print so features look more 'linear' than they really are, and due to the bayer matrix there issome inherent banding at 100% in ALL images.

Um, I'm with Viktor.

Is your monitor working properly? You don't have a Sony, do you?

Anyway, these are not WB correctly, and you're using that darned overly magenta C1 M8 profile. Yikes on the skin tones.

But I don't see anything like a vertical red line. Not there at all, that I can see. Can you please point it out?

i didn't really want to take part in any more threads today, because i feel that my negativity is getting out-of-hand - but i was watching this one because i simply KNEW someone would jump in and say that 'they can't see it' or 'it must be your monitor'.

Sitting in front of this Apple color-calibrated display i can CLEARLY see those red lines - particularly in the fingertips of the first picture.

In addition, fred clearly states that it may be "a problem of raw conversion" - so it obviously isn't simply a jpeg artifact.

Good grief.

edit: wow - there's a few people online today i see... :-)

First picture

I can three short vertical red lines on the index finger

Difficult to say what is this though

I can't see any of the artifacts mentioned. Please re-post with a circle around them.

My monitor? EIZO CG 19 profiled by Eye One Spectro and GM PM5.

I don't think these would print out, guys...

I can see them.........just, but only after it was pointed out where they are. As has already been stated, could you see them on a print? (and without using a magnifying glass please! :D) If so, then its a problem, if not, please stop pixel peeping.

Difficult to highlight because this inherently obscures the red lines - but i chose 2 of them (there are many more on the fingers).

"please stop pixel peeping."

fyi - some people (including some professionals) use their cameras for online presentation (including product shots that occassionally need to be presented at 100%).

NOT okay in a pro camera.

Sorry but I haven't yet a "photo quality" printer and my lab was closed today (November 11 is holiday in France). So I can't tell if it will be visible on a print...

But I think that yes it would be visible on a big print (A3 or more...).

And I repeat that I've never seen anything like this before... so sounds like a problem...

I've found maybe a new problem with the M8.

I've noticed vertical red or magenta line on some pictures

By the way, the accentuated red blotchy quality of the man's face in your photograph is apparently another consequence of the IR problem --- the IR accentuates blood and blood vessels (red) near the surface. In many ways even more significant a problem than the other results of the IR sensitivity, at least if you are planning to use the M8 to photograph people.

"And it causes human skin to appear "blotchy". Areas with less subsurface blood appear unusually light, areas with increased subsurface blood appear as darker blotches. (Such irregularities in blood concentration can be due to circulation problems, or to quite normal physiological reactions that constrict or dialate capillaries). There's also a tendency for surface veins to be unusually prominent, especially in fair haired people."

Here's the link for the quote above and a full discussion of the effect of IR sensitivity on various colors, including the now infamous black:

well, the IR bloodvessel stuff may make this an ideal dematology camera.

anyway, let's be careful. Here is a Contax P45 shot.

Is thepriest evidencing a camera problem? note other complexions, look fine to me
