Contax RST lens fit ?

Recommended Posts

But Carl Zeiss do of course offer a line of excellent-to-superlative lenses in M fit. They are designated 'ZM' lenses. I own two of them and they are an interesting top quality alternative to Leica lenses.

Hi

This is the first time I have posted on this forum.

I wonder if any one can tell me if Contax Carl Zeiss lenses would be the same fit as Leica M8 ? Thank you.

Given that an adapter with RF coupling is out of discussion, such an adapter would have sense only with WAs that can be decently focused on estimate distance : Contax RTS had indeed a pair of such lenses, the Distagon 18 f4 and the 15 f3,5 (which existed in Leica R mount too); I don't know if such an adapter exists... but I have one for the old Zeiss Contarex mount, just for I have the above Distagon 18 in Contarex version.

P.S. : welcome to the forum !!!

Luigi,

Sadly the 18/4 was never updated from the time of your Contarex one, until its final days of production in 2002. What was an incredible lens in 1962, was forty years later, looking a bit ordinary. The 21 Distagon which was updated, is still avidly sought after for use on Canon's etc.

I use various cheap Russian fish-eye lenses on M42 to Leica M adapters - they are dirt cheap to buy second hand and good fun. The M8 crop removes the worst of the vignetting. No need to focus. At f4 (f2.8 best avoided) my 8/16mm Zenitar is in focus from 1m to infinity. I am trying to get an old Wratten 89b infra red (visible light cut) filter cut down to fit in 26.5mm filter holder, which sits on the camera side of the lens. Lot of squeaking from my optician!
