Which lenses would you recommend for M8 ?

You clearly are going through the same thoughts as myself, with your listed selections.

I had just yesterday decided that I will go f2/28mm and f1.4/75mm for my M8.

I see the f2.8/21mm is almost the same price as the f2/28mm. Both seem similar in size and weight.

The extra angle width of the 21mm over 28mm does not convince me as being significantly beneficial. However I think the faster speed of the f2/28mm is more useful on a daily basis than the f2.8 of the 21mm.

What I would like to know from those M owners who have both f2.8/21mm and f2/28mm ... Is one of these lenses dramatically/significantly better over the other for 80% of the usage ? I've read the Putts review which talks about the sweet spots in the f2.8-f4

Its said that the 2/28 ist the best lens Leica produces, so you would have the perfect "35mm" lens on your M8.

1,4/35 would be like a 50mm, and you would have a good lens for all situations.

The choice of lenses is a very personal matter so I will give you my personal preference. I shoot RF because I want to shoot wide and open, so I would go for pack 1. IMO the 75 1.4 is too bulky and the 35 becomes a regular 50 on the M8. Personally I would go, as I will, only for the 28 cron and if possible add a noctilux for a really low light experience and the new tri-elmar.

24mm (it's like a slightly wider 35mm currently)

28mm (it's very close to 35mm currently)

50mm Noct (like a 65mm lens slightly telephoto-ish) Also note, some initial images that have been posted using this lens are, in my opinion, nothing short of eerily awesome with a 3 dimensionality unlike I've seen in any lens anywhere.

75mm Summicron (the new 90mm...well, actually 99mm) Nice short telephoto if you need it. Quite optional.

For me the lens kit is likely to be the 24mm and the 50mm Noct.

Regards,

P

At the german forum a member told us, that he sold his Noctliux because its very difficult to focus it. He will go for a 1,4/50
