There was a post in the Rangefinder Forum that stated (not confirmed) that about 1,500 cameras were shipped in the first round.

I heard the same number (1500) from a store owner, but he may have been recycling the same post.

The unanswered question in the message from Leica regarding the IR issue with the M8 is if this remedy is a short or long-term fix? I am curious to hear what other readers think Leica will do in the long term? If I am not mistaken the solution is in re-engineering the sensor or updating the M8 to accommodate some type of IR filter in the M8 housing? I am certain Leica will not discuss this option since it will depress sales of the current M8 and risk the financial health of the company. The question remains, is Leica working a better solution?

One of the guests at the T-Day feast yesterday was a working pro who uses Nikon DLSRs in his PJ work (people events and some sports shooting). He fondled my M8 quite a bit, going through all the menus. Understandably, he didn't like the (1) lack of auto-focus, (2) lack of zoom and (3) lack of battery life (from the history I described so far.)

He shoots everything to JPG and spends as little time as possible in PhotoShop to finish the selected files, then either e-mail or physically deliver on CDs the results to his customer. "Time on the computer costs me money so I minimize it. If I'm not shooting, I'm not making money," he declared.

To each his own...
