jaay Posted June 24, 2009 Share #1 Â Posted June 24, 2009 Advertisement (gone after registration) I am considering a lens from them that's on eBay. They are listing it as used but never mounted on a camera. After questioning them they said it's from an estate sale and will be as if it's new. Does your experience with them lead you to believe they should be believed and trusted? Â Thanks.

jrc Posted June 24, 2009 Share #5 Â Posted June 24, 2009 The only people I buy Leica stuff from. I've never had any kind of a problem; and if you have questions, they will talk to you on the phone. Â JC

dfarkas Posted June 24, 2009 Share #7 Â Posted June 24, 2009 Advertisement (gone after registration) You may want to inquire whether the lens is USA product (with 3-year passport warranty) or gray market. The USA passport covers even accidental damage. From the warranty card: Â "This exclusive plan provides protection against manufacturer defects, functional failures, or any accidental damage to the covered product including breakage, water damage, or any accident. Excluded are occurrences of fire, loss, theft, or signs of deliberate damage." Â Also worth noting (as they are saying it is used): Â "The Leica 3 Year Passport Protection Plan and Limited Warranty is non-transferable" Â I've had a customer drop a 75 Cron off a boat tender while on a cruise. The front element cracked when it hit the rocks on shore, then filled up with salt water and sand when it rolled into the ocean. We sent it to Leica in NJ and they replaced the lens, no questions asked. Â David

tbarker13 Posted June 24, 2009 Share #10 Â Posted June 24, 2009 When my first M8 had problems that were taking many, many months to repair, Tony offered to talk to Leica for me to see if he could help me out (I'd purchased the camera from him). A week later, Leica NJ sent me a brand new M8 to replace the one that was taking so long to repair. There may be others dealers out there who are just as good, but I have a hard time believing anyone is better.
M. Valdemar Posted June 24, 2009 Share #11 Â Posted June 24, 2009 These type of guys like Popflash are what's known as businesses that cater to the "carriage trade". Â You don't get big (or any) discounts, but they give you good personal service and cater to a fairly well-heeled crowd. They look after you if you have problems. Â If you're a wheeler-dealer, a horse trader, flea-marketer, "off the truck guy" or a bottom feeder, they're not for you. Â But if you're insecure, need your hand held, worry about the origins of your goods or worry about warranty service, then you're the type who should buy from them. noah_addis Posted June 24, 2009 Share #12 Â Posted June 24, 2009 I bought my used 21 Elmarit ASPH from Tony at Popflash and it was beautiful, just as described on his site. I wouldn't hesitate to buy from him again, but as others have said, if you're in doubt of the ebay ad just give him a call.
scaryink Posted June 24, 2009 Share #13 Â Posted June 24, 2009 I have found their prices to be quite good compared to others. They had the best price on my Zeiss lens period. I dont know how an outsider would know what prices they pay for product but I believe they do quite a large volume of Leica biz.

But if you're insecure, need your hand held, worry about the origins of your goods or worry about warranty service, then you're the type who should buy from them.  Funny. But not particularly true. I've purchased a couple of nice lenses from them at better prices than I could find on eBay, forums like this one and from other "lesser" photo dealers. It's just that PopFlash isn't the best place to go if you are looking for "user" or "bargain" grade equipment.

I have found his prices perfectly reasonable. He offers US, gray ("used mint") and genuinely used goods at graduated prices with US passport, world Leica warranty, or his own 1 year warranty, depending on the provenance.  scott
