Coops Posted July 12, 2009 Author Share #21 Posted July 12, 2009 Advertisement (gone after registration) Hi all, just to let you know that I finally bought a M8 and couldn't be happier with it,I took the plunge and bought one from a dealer of the dreaded Ebay, anyway it paid off as everything is in order and I didn't receive a Leica box with a brick in it,I had nightmares about that one Just wanted to thank everyone that replied and especially Farnz,Earlygallery,Semrich and Michael Boyland who i met at a meet up. I've also just bought a CV 28mm f2 and I know this lens hasn't had the best reviews with the focus shift problem but I'm happy with it at present and it seems to be a nice length for what I wanted,I'm also considering the CV35mm f2.5 Colour Skopar Classic as this does seem to be a real bargain and has had from what I can gather some very good reviews?? I'd love some Leica glass but really cant run to the price of even a second hand one at present. Dam there expensive! Now I've joined the gang I'll be posting more and will put some photos up in the gallery. Cheers all David

earleygallery Posted July 12, 2009 Share #23 Posted July 12, 2009 David, So now you're a fully fledged member of the Leica community! The Skopar is a great little lens, I use one on my M2 - I wouldn't think twice about adding one of those to your collection (apparently its best to get the screw lens and fit a coded M adapter. You could also look at an older 50mm 2.8 or 3.5 Elmar for a short tele lens on the M8.
Steve Pope Posted July 12, 2009 Share #24 Posted July 12, 2009 If the budget is really constrained, maybe you shouldn't go for the 35mm as your second (and only alternative) lens - a lot of users suggest doubling your focal length for number two, which in this case brings the 50mm nicely into consideration. If and when there are funds for a third lens, perhaps think about going a fair bit wider than your starting focal length. Tightly bunching the first two or three lens purchases doesn't make either aesthetic or economic sense.
JLV Posted July 12, 2009 Share #25 Posted July 12, 2009 - increased risk of addiction ... The addiction is severe in most of the cases doubled by Gas (Gear acquisition Syndrom) but, what a joy and, icing on the cake you join the LUF community:D All the best, Jean-Luc
Ecar Posted July 12, 2009 Share #26 Posted July 12, 2009 Welcome David! And I agree with Steve that 35mm may be too close to 28mm. A 50mm would enable you to explore different creative opportunities. Also, allow me to say that the CV 28 f/2 is a great little lens; and focus shift may be only marginal on some good copies. I actually love the way it renders for portraits or moody landscapes / architecture - so much so that I kept one alongside a 28 Cron and an Elmarit (I know I need to sell one, but my form of GAS is a fairly severe one )
majjom Posted July 12, 2009 Share #27 Posted July 12, 2009 Advertisement (gone after registration) Hi Every one, Can the M8 focus an arm's length away or 0.3 meters away. I love Leica colors currently use a Lumix.
delander † Posted July 12, 2009 Share #28 Posted July 12, 2009 Hi Every one, Can the M8 focus an arm's length away or 0.3 meters away. I love Leica colors currently use a Lumix. Not with ordinary lenses only 0.7m. Maybe the 90mm macro elmar can when fitted with the macro attachment. Jeff
Bo_Lorentzen Posted July 13, 2009 Share #29 Posted July 13, 2009 David, Congratulations. One more vote for the 50mm next.. though. seriously there is nothing wrong with spending a bit of time with just one lens on a Leica. .
