luigi bertolotti Posted June 27, 2009 Share #21 Posted June 27, 2009 Advertisement (gone after registration) Thanks to all for the helps in this lens identification, so I must suppouse that all the lens whit the 00 Focal Lenghs are specials one, I have seen some of my stuff an can see a lot of Summicrome 50 whit diferent numbers, also the Summilux 50 have a 05...My 75 Lux 1ºVersion has also a 00 code. this give something special to this lens? No , let us not make confusions... the small 2 digits at the end of the distance scale are at all common in many lenses, and, as Jaap said, their meaing is the "tolerancing" in respect to the nominal focal length : a 90 mm with "00" is a real exactly 90 mm lens, period; the same applies to Summicrons 50, which had 2 or 3 "official" focal lengths that weren't exactly 50 (I remember 51,2 or so... easy to find the precise info), and so other lenses (I have a old chrome Tele Elmarit 90 with the 2 digits, for instance). This isn't much related to the real uniqueness of your lens which is the number and the locartion of engravings.

jaapv Posted June 28, 2009 Share #22 Posted June 28, 2009 Thanks, Luigi, I only mentioned it as an added clue, the lens being exactly on the 90 mm, which would be the case for a reference lens. As such it is nothing special. There is a table in Erwin Puts' Lens Compendium which lists the numbers as related to the focal lengths iirc. Leica used the COMO system, which, amongst other things, matched tolerances to produce uniform quality lenses, but that made the focal length a variable, and they engraved the actual focal length on the lens.
