The camera on the left is rumored to be the next mFT camera from Olympus, complete with an EVF ... the form-factor certainly looks familiar, eh? Here's hoping that's a shutter-speed dial on the top plate!

Ha!!! So the DO read my blog. LOL

Interesting... any idea of the source for these?

It is quite obvious this is a Photo-Chop recreation. Lots of tell-tail hints if you look at the areas of the images that are "common" to both camera's. They're actually more than "common"... they are one in the same. Look at the reflections and shadows.

I'd be curious as to the source.

My thoughts too, someone's idea of what they wanted the E-P1 to be. If it were true though........ that would be more like it Olympus.

Well, let´s hope... The big problem is, the present mFT lenses don´t have any aperture rings. Don´t know if others think the same, but for me the most used mode on any modern camera is the A mode, where one selects a f/stop value, and the camera obliges by suggesting a shutter speed (which can easily be modified with the EV correction scale).

This way, I can do just about anything, quickly and easily: force the lens to stay wide-open when needing to stop action, making the lens work at its optimal aperture for max quality, getting the DOF I feel the image needs, and finally (using spot metering) zone place anything while preserving the choices I made above.

So,, what is the use of a shutter-speed dial? What we need first of all is an aperture ring!!!!!

And, of course, a SCALED focussing ring to allow us to preset a distance before we even turn the camera on.

For me, these things are what makes the Digilux 2 unique. NONE of the mFT lenses so far do anything towards allowing a Digilux 2 replacement. As John so eloquently put it elsewhere ( Who Decided The Scrolling Wheel Cursor Was The Be-All,End-All? - Journal - Motorsports Photographer ~ John Thawley :: Photography of American Le Mans, Grand Am, SPEED World Challenge ), those jogging-wheels are out to get us....

STOP !!!

didn't we go through this scenario just before photokina 2008 and get all wound up about "the next D2" and in fact there was a great 3D solid model someone posted (from Japan) about what it looked like..... and it looked great .....

ridiculous childish speculation to think that Oly is really evolving the Leica D2.

but ..... i just sent Oly $500 to hold one for me just case they are ...... <smirk>

I think this was on one of the rumor sites, and the perpetrator did not pretend it was anything other than a Photoshop creation, he was wanting a viewfinder, even if 'only' an EVF

or will it be this one? It's a fun game, but hard to tell which one is more believable.

I found the photo on another forum and have no clue as to its original source. Like you (and everybody else), I believe it's a photoshopped image and posted it here just as a bit of fun. :-)

That said, though, if Olympus did ever release something like this, I would be very interested in it, aperture ring on the lens or not.
