bayerische Posted November 9, 2006 Share #1 Posted November 9, 2006 Advertisement (gone after registration) I got into the Leica world about 2 months ago. I've always been drooling to get the M-system, but it never happend. Not because of economics, but because of the "fear of change". I'm now a happy owner of a Leica M6 (With Leitz logo) and 3 summicron lenses: 35mm, 50mm and 90mm. Love the 90mm and 35mm especially! I've got a few more lenses to get. I would like to find a Noctilux. I've owned the Canon EF 50mm f1.0 L. The Noctilux is said to be better. I will need something reasonably wide. Wider than 35mm. Atleast 28mm. Voigtländer got some interesting choices... One thing bugging me is: What bag to get for Leica M-system? Billingham Hadley? BR Andreas Welcome, dear visitor! moikle Posted November 9, 2006 Share #2 Posted November 9, 2006 Hi Andreas and welcome to the club. I use a Billingham L2 for my M7 outfit. Take a look yourself here: http://www.billingham.co.uk/prodbuy.asp?id=70 Mike
LADP Posted November 9, 2006 Share #3 Posted November 9, 2006 Welcome Andreas, I'm pretty new to the Leica world too. I wanted one for over twenty years, and this past year a friend of mine sold me his M6 and a 35 summicron. The bug bit hard, and since then I've picked up 50/1.4 summilux, and traded the M6 in towards a new black paint MP. There will be more lenses to follow, and I think I'm going to pick up an M3 soon too. As for bags, check out Fogg, and also Artisan and Artist. I own a Fogg B-Laika (in all black, even the leather trim unlike what's shown in the link), and it's perfect for one M body and a few lenses, etc., or prehaps two M bodies with only a lens each or so. Artisan and Artist look very interesting. I am considering one for when I want to carry more than just a small kit. They make beautiful leather straps (I have one), and their bags look really nice too. The Image Smith is the one I am considering getting to carry a bigger kit. ken_davis Posted November 9, 2006 Share #4 Posted November 9, 2006 Andreas, bags are very personal but I use a Billingham Hadley Pro more than anything else. Reasons: 1. It doesn't look like a camera bag. 2. It has a handle as well as a shoulder strap. 3. It will take a small outfit or a reasonably large one, mine often carries two bodies including an M5; 21mm, 28mm, 35mm, 50mm, 90mm and at a pinch the 135. These are carried in pouches. The pockets carry film, finders, cloths, batteries etc. The back pocket can be used for documents and for things like a polythene bag to kneel on. Hope this helps Ken Davis
earleygallery Posted November 10, 2006 Share #5 Posted November 10, 2006 Try the 'snapshot' Skopar 25mm. Great little lens.
cbretteville Posted November 10, 2006 Share #6 Posted November 10, 2006 Andreas, Velkommen! I use a Billingham L2 which I extend with one or two AVEA3 pouches as needed. Typical kit I carry in it is: M6, 35'lux, 50Elmar, 90Elmarit and VC25/4. The 50 and 25s are small enough to go as extras, the 35 and 90 are what I mainly use. The Snapshot Skopar is a little gem of a lens that, sadly, is out of production, but still available. I've had mine since may and enjoy using it. The fact that it isn't rangefinder couppled dosen't bother me. Here is a shot from Sienna, Italy taken with it http://www.leica-camera-user.com/forum-member-meetings/7050-one-challenge-2006-what-happens-next-2.html#post80351 Have fun with your M. - Carl
bayerische Posted November 10, 2006 Author Share #7 Posted November 10, 2006 Advertisement (gone after registration) Tack för välkomst hälsningen Carl! (Thank you Carl for the welcoming) Nice picture! Beautiful lead-in line. I've heard so much good about the 25mm, that maybe this is the lens I should get. I saw a National Geographic camera bag today in a shop window. Sadly the shop was closed. Pic posted. Welcome, dear visitor! wide.angle Posted November 11, 2006 Share #8 Posted November 11, 2006 I saw that National Geographic bag online and wondered how well it would work... but I also saw some bags from Barbour, and I think I'm going to go with one of the Tarras from them... anyone else using these? Just wondering how rugged they are. Barbour leather Tarras
bayerische Posted November 11, 2006 Author Share #9 Posted November 11, 2006 But is the Barbour a dedicated Camera bag?
stunsworth Posted November 11, 2006 Share #10 Posted November 11, 2006 Hi Scott, I have a leather Bilingham Hadley that I've been using for the last 5 years or so. Strange to relate it looks almost identical to the Barbour that you've mentioned, I wonder if there's a connection :-) I'm pretty certain that I've seen another thread here than mentioned that the Barbour took a Hadley insert. As far as my bag goes, I love it. The leather has become scuffed after a while, but that doesn't bother me. I'd certainly buy another.
andybarton Posted November 11, 2006 Share #11 Posted November 11, 2006 IIRC, Pete Taylor (elansprint xx) uses a Barbour bag, but he doesn't have a load of different lenses to worry about. I use a Billingham L2 for my M system. It's the perfect size if you only need a single body and a few lenses.
bayerische Posted November 13, 2006 Author Share #12 Posted November 13, 2006 Well today I ended my search. Went in to my Leica dealer and got a Billingham Hadley. With the "new" water repellant fabric.
azzo Posted November 15, 2006 Share #13 Posted November 15, 2006 Lowepro is another name for camera bags. Re another lens wider than 35...Leica's 24 ASPH is a beautiful lens to use, with outstanding results. Best Azzo
