I am looking at upgarding all of my lenses to "UV + IR" for the M8 ...is this really necessary or a waste of money. I have at least the following issues: > 50mm Noctilux (f1) Canada Mfg. ....It uses a 58mm but Leica do not make this. > Somebody said using a filter on Noctilux is not a good idea? Comment? > Apparently BH make the correct filter but who stocks it? > 21mm Super Angulon (f3.4) Wetlar Mfg....what size is it? > About 48mm as near as I can measure! > 90 mm Summicron (f2) Canada Mfg. ..what size is it? > About 48mm as near as I can measure! Viso Lenses > Telyt 280mm...accepts a E58mm? > Telyt 400mm..seems to have No filter thread..any idea why? > Telyt 560mm ..seems to have no filter thread..any idea why? > 65 mm Elmar (f3.5) ....seems a litlle larger than E39..maybe 42mm? Do a search about IR-cut filters if you don't mind as it is an endless subject: http://www.l-camera-forum.com/leica-forum/search.php Telyt 400 & 560: there is a filter slot at the rear of the lens IIRW. I have had a lot on my mind since I was five, and I forget! I have discovered that E means "Einschrauben" and (screw in) E39 would refer to the 39 mm diameter... Is the measurement of 39 mm across the visible glass or outside threads...does anyone know.? I have not managed to find a list of lenses (serial nos) vis a vis filter sizes for M series lenses. Anyone have a link? Above I note there are 3 separate filter sizes for 90 mm (f2) Summicron (old type..pre Apro) and I am unsure which refers to my lens (S/No 2659903 ..made in Canada) Thanks for your help. Yes it does look like this and the rear face of the lens has a tripod mount...I guess as this lens does....The lens was bought new by me in 1976 . I am told it is a classic...certainly the photos even in my hands is awesome and provokes questions about how good the new lenses really are in final result rather than less weight, smaller size.
