Advertisement Posted June 9, 2009 Posted June 9, 2009 Hi Roger S, Take a look here Screen protectors on M8. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
jaapv Posted June 9, 2009 Share #2 Posted June 9, 2009 Yes and yes. In my experience the LCD on theM8 is not bad for scratching, and the sapphire screen is of course perfect. There have been reports of protectors using sticky stuff that the LCD "glass" was pulled off by removing the protector and/or that the coating was damaged. If you want to use one, use a protector that depends on static attraction to stick.
Marty Posted June 9, 2009 Share #3 Posted June 9, 2009 I seem to recall someone mentioning that removing the protector took off the whole LCD cover. Most people seem happy with them though. Plenty of threads if you search.
epand56 Posted June 9, 2009 Share #4 Posted June 9, 2009 I've put a reusable one on my screen an hour after buying my M8 and it is still there, perfect as it was the first day. It is not adhesive it sticks by static attraction No air bubbles at all, it is invisible. I highly recommend it. I've bought 5 on eBay and the other four ar taking the dust in my drawer. I don't even notice that it is on my screen.
basho Posted June 9, 2009 Share #5 Posted June 9, 2009 Does one need to use a screen protector on the sapphire M8.2 screen, or is it really indestructible?

noah_addis Posted June 9, 2009 Share #7 Posted June 9, 2009 Advertisement (gone after registration) I've found the standard M8 screen fairly easy to scratch. While I'm not worrying about cosmetic issues, a scratched screen can be harder to view. I had a loaner for a bit before I decided to buy my first M8, and I scratched the LCD the first day I had it during a routine assignment. I use the hoodman screen protectors. You have to cut them to fit which is a pain, but they stick fairly well, are easy to remove and work ok. They're cheap and come in packs of 12, I think. They're difficult to apply without getting bubbles. They do make the screen a bit worse to look at, so I've been considering taking them off and just letting the screens get scratched, but I haven't done it yet. Marty Posted June 9, 2009 Share #8 Posted June 9, 2009 Does one need to use a screen protector on the sapphire M8.2 screen, or is it really indestructible? It is scratch-proof but not indestructible, in fact far from it.
SJP Posted June 9, 2009 Share #9 Posted June 9, 2009 If you would incinerate an M8.2 the only thing left would be the screen, but it is not mechanically indestructible although it should be quite strong.

Unless the heat exceeds 2000 degrees C. In which case, the screen would be the least of your troubles I think.
SJP Posted June 9, 2009 Share #11 Posted June 9, 2009 True. Incineration is a unlikely scenario anyway, I would sincerely hope.
Srutkay74 Posted June 9, 2009 Share #12 Posted June 9, 2009 Ive had pretty good luck with a Giotto screen protector... My only complaint is that every once in a while, the bottom or top edge comes loose, but a quick press back down seems to do the trick.
vanhulsenbeek Posted June 9, 2009 Share #13 Posted June 9, 2009 Does one need to use a screen protector on the sapphire M8.2 screen, or is it really indestructible? Good question. It is indestructible, but also it likes to hold on to grease. I am contemplating to stick a screen protector on it, so I can dispense with that excessive cleaning I must do now. ampguy Posted June 9, 2009 Share #14 Posted June 9, 2009 I have both the soapy wet attach and the plain pressure type of covers for the iphone. I think I'm going to try cutting one of the pressure applied ones for the M8 screen. The previous owner of my RD1 attached 2 halves to the smaller RD1 screen, I'm now wondering if they did so for easier removal? Anyways, the line is distracting, so I'm not going to try that. lars_bergquist Posted June 9, 2009 Share #16 Posted June 9, 2009 A good screen protector is a Crescenti half-case (http://leicatime.com/). Don't let Luigi's slightly spontanistic website deter you--he does a very good job. The old man from Grandfather's Saddlery Workshop

Even though it is kind of too late for my M8, might still be worth to stop further damage. Lately I noticed that my LCD screen has a lot of fine scratches. Once I tried to find in Japan, but they did not have the size. Funny thing was sales person who was helping was telling me that probably Leica did not want people to put cheap protector over it. Unlike other camera, LCD sticks out and has rounded corners.
Nicoleica Posted June 9, 2009 Share #18 Posted June 9, 2009 I use a Digicover screen protector myself on my M8. In an emergency, a piece of cling-film can be used. It doesn't offer much protection, but it's better than nothing.
