Update from Leica-M8

There must be people in Solms who know the real deal. I think Leica have some tough questions to ask and decisions to make.

What's involved in fixing this camera? New sensor, new firmware, new electronics? Or all three? How much time, how much money? Stop production now? Stop shipping now? Recall cameras in the distribution chain? Take all the cameras back?

I read this morning's announcement as a statement that they have what they hope is a complete set of facts, have decided on what steps to take, and have put together at least an initial plan with timetables, to execute those steps. And will share some of that with us in the next few weeks. I want to see what they come up with, but this is exactly what I hoped to hear.

maybe we can identify problems in internet time, but fixing them in hardware and changing a manufacturing process still takes the old kind of time -- days, weeks and even months.

Looks a bit like Airbus with their A380.

Outstanding airplane, big bugs on production line due to

lack of communication between engineers and their software.

Let's remind that Airbus problem comes from thef fact

that german engineers and french engineers did not work

ont the same version of their modelling software — as does

Boeing, working seamlessly with the same french Dassault software

on their… american 787.

And don't tell me : big difference, the A380 flies with no problem

so far.

It flies, but without this entertainment and passenger seats lighting systems

that are the source of the problem.

:D

Both M8 and A380 will fly… probably with great success, but both reputation

will surely be damaged.

Pity, because I admire Airbus as much as I do with Leica.
