poynterama Posted May 27, 2009 Share #1 Posted May 27, 2009 Advertisement (gone after registration) I accidentally bought three bulk rolls of Portra 400NC from Adorama on ePray last week! I was pretty chuffed with myself considering they are 2008/2009 dated so should keep a while yet in the freezer and the price was very good The only problem was, being the numpty I am, I didn't correctly read the listing......... it turns out the spools are NOT the 100' that I was expecting, but 200' I guess the good part is I ended up getting twice the amount of film I was expecting Now to the dilemma........where does one find a bulk loader that takes 200' spools?? My Lloyds loader is only a 100' jobbie so not much good for this unfortunately. Any advice?? I guess this means that I'll be posting a few more photos considering this should work out to be 120ish rolls of 36exp
Advertisement Posted May 27, 2009 Posted May 27, 2009 Hi poynterama, Take a look here uh oh.....what have I done....... I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
Finnkare Posted May 27, 2009 Share #2 Posted May 27, 2009 Maybe you could try and cut the roll in half... The other one maybe lacks the center spool then but does it matter?
dfoo Posted May 28, 2009 Share #3 Posted May 28, 2009 You could roll the whole thing up without a loader. Unreel about an arms span of film and roll it up. Tom A has a youtube video on how he loads his film using this technique.
alifie Posted May 28, 2009 Share #4 Posted May 28, 2009 Being a bulk user you must have some empty ones you could split your new find into.
poynterama Posted May 29, 2009 Author Share #5 Posted May 29, 2009 Thanks for the advice guys Unfortunately I don't have access to a darkroom and rely on my changing bag so I think I'll just have to do the best I can!
JBA Posted May 29, 2009 Share #6 Posted May 29, 2009 Too much film! Some people would love to be caught in this predicament.
poynterama Posted May 29, 2009 Author Share #7 Posted May 29, 2009 Advertisement (gone after registration) I would love to be caught in the predicament of those unsure whether to trade their f1 noctilux for the f0.95 model (with no offence intended!) Still, I'm not complaining!!!

poynterama Posted June 25, 2009 Author Share #9 Posted June 25, 2009 Well after doing some research, it seems the Alden 72 loader is what I need- it's designed specifically for the 200' rolls. Does anyone have one they want to part with, or know where I can find one?

Does anyone have one they want to part with, or know where I can find one? I have no interest in -Bay selling/purchasing but a single Google search turned up this: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/BULK-FILM-LOADER-ALDEN-200-MODEL-72-VERY-NICE-CONDITION_W0QQitemZ310121077992QQcmdZViewItemQQptZUK_Photography_DarkroomSupplies_SM?hash=item4834a81ce8&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14&_trkparms=65%3A12%7C66%3A2%7C39%3A1%7C72%3A1690%7C240%3A1318%7C301%3A0%7C293%3A1%7C294%3A50
poynterama Posted June 26, 2009 Author Share #11 Posted June 26, 2009 I have no interest in -Bay selling/purchasing but a single Google search turned up this:... Thanks Alun- my ePray search didn't come up with that as it's listed for UK buyers only. Fortunately I have some friends over there who can send it out to me so hopefully all my problems are solved and I can spend more time shooting the film than worrying about how to get it in my camera!
