ho_co Posted July 11, 2006 Share #81 Posted July 11, 2006 Advertisement (gone after registration) ...arguing about whether the rewind lever on the M7 should be canted... Good point, John! Put in my vote that it should be canted, just not at 45 degrees but at about 37 degrees. Just feels better in my hand. But that really belongs in another thread, doesn't it? Seriously, you're quite right. Many of us have pointed out that this is useless speculation, since Leica has already done the job. We're only doing this to avoid having to watch TV! --HC
Advertisement Posted July 11, 2006 Posted July 11, 2006 Hi ho_co, Take a look here M8 Viewfinder. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
ptomsu Posted July 11, 2006 Share #82 Posted July 11, 2006 I hope the viewfinder is the same quality as the M7 viewfinder
ptomsu Posted July 11, 2006 Share #83 Posted July 11, 2006 Yes, when I write a review of the digital M it will certainly include comparisons to the R-D1. Cheers, Sean Sean, this is a good intention, but the 2 cannot be compared really !
marknorton Posted July 11, 2006 Share #84 Posted July 11, 2006 Of course they can be compared, Peter! They're functionally equivalent and Sean Reid already compares Leica lenses with CV lenses which cost a fraction of the price and the (my) conclusion is that the extra quality at the margin is there but costs. I'm sure the M8 will be a fine performer - the best - but the R-D1 will still stack up well against it, especially when you take the cost difference into account. For people who find the M8 a financial stretch too far, the R-D1 will be a sensible choice.
lct Posted July 11, 2006 Share #85 Posted July 11, 2006 Cameras are tools, note race cars. Not only we can but we must compare them to know which one works best for us. Not necesserarily the dearest needless to say.
sean_reid Posted July 12, 2006 Share #86 Posted July 12, 2006 Sean, this is a good intention, but the 2 cannot be compared really ! Peter, That's an interesting comment. Why is it that they can't be compared? Of course, any two things can be compared by why is it that you, if I understand correctly, think they should not be compared? I'll be doing the comparison for sure but I'm curious about your comment. Have you worked with either camera? Cheers, Sean
