This is the way to do it:

1. Foolishly drop your M8

2. Send off to Solms to readjust

3. Get your insurance to foot the bill

4. Get a perfect camera returned in a fortnight

5. Get a courtesy one year extension of guarantee

I think this is a unique and I cannot think of any other product that would come with this service.

When I dropped my M8 (it was under passport warranty) a similar certificate arrived back with the camera - effectively extending the warranty - something which I certainly didn't expect and very much doubt any other manufacturer would offer!

That's very nice of course. Didn't happen when they replaced the sensor of mine in March 08.

@Jaap: How do you insure your camera(s)?

Now THAT is customer service!

considering what an M8 costs, it's the least they can do, IMO. I'm glad that Leica is thinking of their loyal customers in this way.

By the way, regarding our loyalty to Leica - I was thinking the other day how incomprehensible it is to non Leica users/lovers how we pay the godawful prices we pay for Leica cameras & lenses. If our friends (not to mention our wives or GFs) knew the truth, blood would spontaneously pour from eyes, ears and nostrils as they convulse and screech in horror, LOL!!

Yet yesterday as I made images with my MP, I totally understood the Leica madness in a way that those who do not own and use Leica Ms never will.

My MP & small assortment of lenses simply brings me joy when I use them - or even when I just fiddle with them. That's worth more than pieces of paper with pictures of dead Presidents on them, IMO.

It's a quality of life thing.

I agree 100% .

Are all Ferrari or Aston Martin, or Martin guitars lovers , and there are a lot of other categories I know including history of mathematics books, fetichists?

I wouldn't trade my simple M8 and few lenses I have for the complete panoply of Nikon body and lenses. (or maybe just to trade them and buy M8.2 and luxes.

All the best

Jean-Luc

Ivo,

I have an insurance policy with Mobiliar Versicherungen und Versorg which covers accidental damage.

I'm a member of a national photographers association and they offer a good collective insurance.
