ejd Posted May 15, 2009 Share #4 Posted May 15, 2009 I expect to be there. Not sure what I might be looking for. Some irresistable useless bargain. no doubt! Will look out for familiar faces. All the best, John
dkCambridgeshire Posted May 16, 2009 Author Share #5 Posted May 16, 2009 In previous years, one well known AP advertiser reduced all his stock to half price at 3.30pm including Leica items ... other dealers do similar so it is worth hanging on until late in the day if looking for bargains. earleygallery Posted May 17, 2009 Share #6 Posted May 17, 2009 I think you mean Mr Cad. I worked for them once. I'd love to go just to say hello to Alex. Happy days.
dkCambridgeshire Posted May 18, 2009 Author Share #7 Posted May 18, 2009 Advertisement (gone after registration) I think you mean Mr Cad. I worked for them once. I'd love to go just to say hello to Alex. Happy days. Mr Cad's table yesterday was not very impressive. Everything was "half price" from the start and no Leica items visible. Also a lot of "as seen" stuff. Elsewhere I managed a few decent buys including a boxed M Bellows II 16556 c/w 16558 ring , a bargain price Leica M2 with an excellent finder, and a Leitz Series 8 Circular Polarizer. Also found a leather case for an original Rolleiflex. A couple of rarities seen were a Compur Leica Model B (not for sale) and an Ilford Witness both on MW Classic's table. The Witness was a nice example with a Dallmeyer Super-Six lens and was reasonably priced. There were lots of visitors and vendors seemed to be doing a brisk trade but await the official report to hear how sales compared with previous years. I had a very interesting chat with a beautiful 6ft tall Afro/French former model who was walking around the hall with an M3/90mm Elmar around her neck. I recognized her from last year's Photographica when she bought some Leica binoculars. I pointed out to her that her 1954 M3 had been modified to add the frame selector. She now prefers to take photographs but only works with film - and regards digital photographers as "idiots". She gave me quite a lecture on how she feels she can communicate with a film camera but not with a digital. She was oozing with confidence and a couple of vendors seemed spellbound by her rare charisma. Cheers dunk

dkCambridgeshire Posted May 18, 2009 Author Share #9 Posted May 18, 2009 Maria and I are in London for a few days next weekend to take in a curry and the Chelsea Flower show...(non of my male friends know about this....). Is this Collector's Show worth going to for a couple of hours??? Or is this a "rainy-day-nothing-else-going-on" event?? Advice??Peter ______________________________ http://www.petermartinphotographer.com It is a once a year event always in mid-May in Westminster so you will have to wait until next year. If you attend in 2010 it will be well worth at least a couple of hours. Cheers dunk

ejd Posted May 24, 2009 Share #11 Posted May 24, 2009 Went along to the Photographica fair last Sunday. Rather crowded in the smaller hall this year, though there were fewer stalls and fewer interesting things to think of buying. I came away with a couple of things. One of them was a Leica mini zoom, a point and shoot film camera from some years back. I don't know if it works properly yet, but the signs are good. £30. Was I robbed? Another was a pack of 20 rolls of only slightly out of date Reala for £12. If it all works, it will have been a good deal. Cheap film is hard to resist. More substantial was a 24mm Elmarit R with hood. Seems good. Now I need (or at any rate, would like) a Series 8 UV filter. Would a 60mm filter do? And a 135mm f4.5 Hektor -- to go with ZOOAN on the viso. (Now I want a ZOOMF.) There were several R5s and R4s and R3s on offer at lowish prices, but after being offered an R-E last year for £100, they all seem expensive. All the best, John
kenneth Posted May 24, 2009 Share #12 Posted May 24, 2009 Photographica 2009 Anyone going? Cheers dunk This looks an extremely interesting link that you added thank you. Sadly, my health issues means that the journey would be too much for me but I hope you enjoy it if you are planning to attend
earleygallery Posted May 24, 2009 Share #13 Posted May 24, 2009 Similar fairs are held around the country throughout the year - usually advertised in the Amateur Photographer or on their website.
