M8 White - review

Well neither finish appeals to me no matter how much money I might have or not have which is more to the point! However you have to admire the marketing that sells these limited edition cameras for such a premium. I do wonder how many of them will ever be used. I saw a Jaguar limited edition M6 go on eBay for well over £3k just recently.

Having said all that I would replace the OM3 I used to have and wish I never sold with an OM3ti in mint condition tomorrow if I could find one!

Pink Cadillac and white Leica send different messages. A white camera looks clean, modern and stylish, like many Apple products. It would make a cool statement for the right photographer. I agree with KM-25.

Edited to add: However, the white camera is an M8, not an M8.2.

Using a white finish has not done Apple any harm at all.I am sure Leica would love to have the profitability of Apple.I would not buy an i phone in white ( mine is gloss black) but the image Apple has created with the use of white is very good.Personally I would not buy a white camera but I am sure that people will.If it increases revenue for Leica then it is not a bad thing.

Has anyone seen the white M8 in reality ? I saw a M8.2 safari at an italian shop... and really is a lot fine to see: as a lenses' lover , the 28 in silver has a lot intrigued me... but seems it's sold only with the camera... :(, btw, also the M8 white is sold in kit with the same 28, but the finishing is slightly different, with the numbers on the barrel also white painted...

Instead of making white or green colors Leica most work to improve camera reliability and image quality.

I was debating with myself whether to buy a M8.2 when the green one was issued. I like green, so it tipped the balance for me. The price for camera, lens and bag is not far off the sum of the individual items.

It has been completely reliable so far, as is my M8. The image quality is only matched, amongst the plethora of cameras available to me, by my Nikon D3x.

I like green a lot.

Hi Ian,

They only made 50 of the Jaguar M6 cameras which makes it, AFAIK, the rarest special they have ever made.

The collector market is very low just now, I have heard of the Jaguar models going for much more...

I saw one about two weeks ago in the Leica shop, in the Ginza district of Tokyo. I'm afraid I wasn't impressed when I saw the advert for it and certainly didn't change my opinion when I saw it in the flesh; but each to his/her own.
