ShivaYash Posted May 9, 2009 Share #1 Posted May 9, 2009 Advertisement (gone after registration) Hello, I have just sold a spare laptop this morning so now have some spare cash for a lens! Am thinking of the CV 15f4.5 - Or second hand Leica 50mm? I have a 35f2 (4th) and CV 28f1.9 Suggestions invited.
Advertisement Posted May 9, 2009 Posted May 9, 2009 Hi ShivaYash, Take a look here £400 burning a hole in my pocket... what lens should I buy?. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
farnz Posted May 9, 2009 Share #2 Posted May 9, 2009 It depends on what your shooting style is but either the CV15 or a 50 Summicron would be excellent value. If you want something a little longer then I recommend the 90 f/2.8 Elmarit, which is an excellent lens and you should be able to find a reasonable one for around £400. Pete. Sandokan Posted May 9, 2009 Share #3 Posted May 9, 2009 Better still, buy some shares in a bank and when everyone has forgotten what a bunch of charlatans they are (by Dec 2009), their share price will increase ten fold and with the £4000 you can buy the CV15 and a 21 & 24mm lens. As Pete says - depends upon your style and how close you like to get to the subject.
ShivaYash Posted May 9, 2009 Author Share #4 Posted May 9, 2009 Yes, I've had a 90mm before and to be honest, it didn't suit me... I used it for a wedding shoot on the M6TTL body. On the M8 I don't know why people bother. I prefer wide angles and love my 28. Ideally I want something to give me what my 35 gave me on film. Does that mean I need 21f2? NZDavid Posted May 9, 2009 Share #5 Posted May 9, 2009 I would think the 50 would get more use -- the 15 would be more of an occasional special-purpose lens. The 50 Summicron is a Leica classic. It's surprisingly versatile: portraits, people, landscapes, your garden. You could pick up a very nice one, either the Summicron Rigid or the next model, for that sum. There's a 21 f/2.8 Elmarit asph but no 21 f/2. Any 28 mm lens will give an equivalent field of view of 37 mm on an M8. Pete.
Pangur Ban Posted May 10, 2009 Share #7 Posted May 10, 2009 Advertisement (gone after registration) Rather than just buying one lens with your £400 why not get two? You can readily pick up some of the vintage Leica lenses for £200 or less - and if you've not tried classics such as the 50mm Elmar f3.5 or the Summarit 50mm f1.5 then you're in for a treat. Summars and Summitars are also found for relatively low amounts and you'll be able to recoup the costs if you decide not to keep them. Just be careful to make sure you get good copies of whichever you pick and you'll have a lot of fun using these characterful lenses.
