jaapv Posted May 4, 2009 Share #1 Posted May 4, 2009 Advertisement (gone after registration) The new range of lenses gives us great options to combine. The Summilux 24 makes from the fingerprint of the lenses, a wonderful 2-lens set with the Summilux 75. Then we have the Summilux 21 which combines beautifully with either the Summilux 50asph or with the Summilux 35 asph and again the Summilux 75 Both sets can be meaningfully extended with the 18 mm. Then for that clinical look there is the Summicron 35 asph with the Summicron 90 AA. I think Leica has really been thinking photographically when determining the range they offer now. (except for the Summilux 75. Imo it was a mistake to drop that lens. They should bring it back or redesign it) One might ask where that leaves the Noctilux. Well, that one is the splendid individualist in the range. It has two faces. One one side it makes the ultimate photographic status symbol for my colleagues from Houston and California, on the other hand it is a superb tool for those of us that know how to use it, like Riccis and Nenad Bojic. And of course it is the symbol of the top dog position Leica holds in the optical world.

Well jaapv the Noct won't be on my camera anytime soon even though I'm from California as I'll stick to my humble 50 mm f2 Summicron which I know how to use very well along with my other Leitz lenses. Perhaps you should make a trip to California sometime it might change your snobbish, holier-than-thou attitude about us then you could move on to something else to look down your nose at. Åmund Posted May 5, 2009 Share #4 Posted May 5, 2009 I am probably stupid, but I can't find a Summilux 75 mm at Red Dot. Did you mean Summicron 75? Åmund

My apologies if I offended, but I do know a few colleagues that hail from there and cater to the stars that happen to fit the description. Present company excluded, and I'm sure there is little difference in inhabitants between California and other parts of the world. It was meant to be no more than a tongue-in-cheek stereotype, I've taken enough heat on this forum about my choice of profession;)....

As you can see from my post the lens has been discontinued.
guidomo Posted May 5, 2009 Share #7 Posted May 5, 2009 Advertisement (gone after registration) As for the Summilux 75: for the wonderful lens that it is, the used ones are still trading at reasonable prices.
Mauribix Posted May 5, 2009 Share #8 Posted May 5, 2009 BTW, I was tryin' to sell my just-bought 18mm Super Elmar here, but didn't get any offer on the forum... I wonder how sales are going for these new stellar lenses such as the 18SE 21SL and 24SL as well...

Mauribix Posted May 5, 2009 Share #10 Posted May 5, 2009 Did you not like it? Rocky No, I like that lens very much! It's a stellar performer to be sincere. I bought it just for a specific commercial work, so as soon as the shooting session was done, I decided to sell it. To be sincere I bought the lens just for that work. I had the 18mm zeiss once, and I sold it for the same reason: I don't use so much wide angle lenses on the M8.

Typical case of misunderstanding. Jaap was referring to his colleagues from California, not to Californians in general. Anyone knowing Jaap's profession will understand what he was talking about. I wonder how sales are going for these new stellar lenses such as the 18SE 21SL and 24SL as well... Last time I checked there were still waiting lists for the 21 and 24 around here so they must be doing just fine. As for the 18mm, if the listing I saw is yours then you are probably overpricing it. It is about €300 less in the UK

Then again if the GBP/Euro rate is going that way, I will be doomed. but don't forget VAT.

We dentists do feel like a persecuted minority on Leica forums sometimes. I thought I'd do a little persecuting myself . Now, shall we start talking lens combinations?
