So Digilux 2 pics have distinctive look, what about Panasonic LC1?

I totally agreed that digi 2 pics have distinctive look, but what about Panasonic LC1 (in Jpeg)? Is there a big difference that can be visually noticable between the two? There must be somebody out there have both cameras, it will be good if they can post some pictures to compare.

I have both and there are indeed noticeable differences between their native .jpgs -- the primary one being that images from the D2 have less saturated, more natural colors (especially skin tones) -- but it's not so clear to me that the RAW files are very different. I'm off on a three-day photo trip in another hour or so and will be taking both cameras with me, so if the circumstances permit, I'll try to shoot a few comparisons between them.

I find the jpegs from the LC1 to be considerably "punchier" than those from the Digilux 2. That said, there are times I like the punchy "Kodachrome" like look of the Panasonic. If you want really bluer-than-blue skies and retina burning reds, it's a really nice look from the Panasonic.

 

That said, however, I can get the same look from either in post processing. Although, I'll admit, it's REALLY tough to get that "Overgaard-esque" looking natural white balance. I don't know how he does it, but no one, I repeat, NO ONE gets more natural colors than Thorsten. He is the Pimp-Daddy of White Balance. LOL

You should consider that the colors are actually cooler here in Northern Europe and Scandinavia than elsewhere. If nothing else, it affects the photographers view on colors and where they should hit.

 

I don't know what I do. Sometimes I desaturate red with 10% and lighten yellow 30% in Photoshop to get the cooler look. You might try that, the percentages just a guide because if there's red dresses or cars in a shot, one want to keep them red. But lighten yellow will usually clean up 'dirty' white walls smeared with warm light.

 

I will think about it and give a guide for what I do.
