Photoskeptic Posted April 29, 2009 Share #1 Posted April 29, 2009 Advertisement (gone after registration) What was that guy smoking when he sold the idea of a white M8 to management? Not only is it ugly, but totally impractical. Shades of the Hermes M's.
Advertisement Posted April 29, 2009 Posted April 29, 2009 Hi Photoskeptic, Take a look here White M8. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
bill Posted April 29, 2009 Share #2 Posted April 29, 2009 If people buy it, and make the company some money to invest in the real stuff, where's the harm? I would hardly equate it to the abominations concocted under the scarf maker's ownership. Regards, Bill
roberts2424 Posted April 29, 2009 Share #3 Posted April 29, 2009 The White Leica puzzles me in that people will buy soon-to-be antiquated cameras soley for the purpose of collectibility. It's a lot of money for something you won't use. However, the point about product and demand is very important for company survival.
offshore Posted April 29, 2009 Share #4 Posted April 29, 2009 What was that guy smoking when he sold the idea of a white M8 to management? Not only is it ugly, but totally impractical. Shades of the Hermes M's. Hey, if you have white bucks and a white patent leather belt it is one cool accessory.

dpattinson Posted April 29, 2009 Share #9 Posted April 29, 2009 you could, of course, get an artist to paint it in enamels... maybe a Bauhaus aesthetic... I can definitely see a homage to Piet Mondrian M8.
Gentleman Villain Posted April 29, 2009 Share #10 Posted April 29, 2009 Why are so many photographers so resistant to change? ARen't ya'll supposed to be open minded artists and accepting of new ideas? If Leica releases an M in anything other than black or chrome then all hell breaks loose around here LOL
Overgaard Posted April 29, 2009 Share #11 Posted April 29, 2009 It will draw a lot of attention onto Leica from the fashion world which alone is worth it. And it's a great camera for collectors as well as for people who buy stuff for fun, like people buying mobile phones with diamonds; I doubt the second-hand price enters their mind. It's all cool. Wolfgang Esslinger Posted April 29, 2009 Share #12 Posted April 29, 2009 There are some threads about the white M8. I don't understand why so many people hate it. If I had the money I would buy it because I think it just looks great! And because it is not just a gimmick of course. Probably not good for stealth photography - although I like the hint "wedding photography" mentioned earlier ;-) Maybe some people hate it because it stresses the point the Leica nowadays is a highly emotional product - and not the undestroyable tool of professionals. But so what - lens quality is still state of the art!
