stuny Posted April 23, 2009 Share #1 Posted April 23, 2009 Advertisement (gone after registration) Here's an unusual insect, on Ngamba Island, Uganda. Its head made Barbara think of the alien in the film Alien. Plenty more pix in the Uganda & Rwanda photo gallery on our site.
Advertisement Posted April 23, 2009 Posted April 23, 2009 Hi stuny, Take a look here No idea what it is. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
vdb Posted April 26, 2009 Share #2 Posted April 26, 2009 Wonderful colors, luscious bokeh. Very painterly. And it doesn't matter what insect it is. Surprised no one has commented until now.
arthurpreston Posted April 27, 2009 Share #3 Posted April 27, 2009 I agree that it doesn't matter what this monster is. The photo has the kind of sharpness in just the right place, that I always hope for, but rarely capture!
Doc Henry Posted April 27, 2009 Share #4 Posted April 27, 2009 Stuart, Great capture and very nice insect : it looks like a praying mantis which mimes the dry herb !
stuny Posted April 27, 2009 Author Share #5 Posted April 27, 2009 Virgil & Arthure - thank you. Henri - Thank you. If it is a mantis it is either a very small species (2 centimeters long) or a juvenile. One of the many advantages of being married to Barbara is that she finds wonder in things like this rather than being repelled.
michali Posted April 27, 2009 Share #6 Posted April 27, 2009 Stuart- Nice shot & selective focus. I agree with Henri, It looks like a type of preying mantis. I've spent the past few weeks on safari and came across some even smaller than this, the ones I saw were not even 1cm long.
