The wonderful Jean-Marc will take good care of your Leica needs. Not sure where you are coming from, but I would stock up on film before hitting Paris. stunsworth Posted April 23, 2009 Share #3 Posted April 23, 2009 When I lived in Paris I bought my camera equipment from the UK and saved hundreds of Euros doing so. Paris is a _very_ expensive place to buy Leica equipment. Maison du Leica is good, but service can be very slow if the shop is busy. It once took me about 40 minutes to buy a filter as there were a couple of people in the queue in front of me. This level of service can be good if you're the only person in the shop, but frustrating if you're not. There are a large number of camera shops on Blvd Beaumarchais, maybe a dozen, but don't expect bargains. There was another interesting shop near the Pompedou Centre - Photo Beaubourg - but I don't know if that's still there. I bought film from the large FNAC in Les Halles as I only lived a few minutes walk away. They often had special offers, three for the price of two, that kind of thing. I haven't been there for a while, but I expect they don't stock as much film as they did. I would like to buy tranny film though to avoid the number of x-rays associated with international travel. Thanks for the suggestions I look forward to visiting these stores. The more airports/machines you travel through, the higher the risk of x-rays fogging your film. Also note that the higher your film speed, the higher the risk. It does 6 x XRAY scan without fogging on hand luggage security scan but don't leave it in your checked luggage their scanners will kill it!! London Heathrow and main US airports will hand scan if you ask - or better still put in lead lined bag then when that is scanned they will have to pick up bag and hand scan it - saves you the begging! They cannot rescan the contents of the bag through machine as it all has to be hand scanned - thats the regs and if they insist they machine scan your film its against their operational procedures. Apart my M8, paid new with a 20% discount a year ago, due to a promo sale, I buy only new from Ffordes. The best prices in Europe, without any doubt. Regarding film, I cannot say, but I've got one or two sellers on eBay which never failed me. Generally speaking, Paris is very expensive photography-wise.
