I would be delighted if I could join as well.

How can we all come together to create a mutually agreed concept?

IMHO all work should be in black and white and ideally in landscape.

How are the pictures be picked up and how can we all work on the same project at different places in different time zones?

Any input very appreciated.

I'm a german photographer, and I'm thinking now some week about doing a book. We get a lot of very nice pictures here and when we do it together it is not so expensive to get a side with the picture and a short story... what do you think about it?!

Jan.........I think this is agreat I dea and I would be happy to support it. For printed output you would need larger image files than we can use on this site so how would you go about this? Also how many images per member? Please let me know how I can help.

Good luck

Dave

I think this is a superb idea and would love to help, although I am not a professional photographer and am a newcomer to this forum.

The organisation of such a project could be tricky - perhaps Andreas could set up a subforum for this purpose, then proposed photographs could be posted as threads with replies to vote for or against; perhaps pick the top 100 pictures for the book and then approach the photographers to supply the high resolution files for publishing.

Just my humble suggestion!! :-)

Choosing photographs for the book could be difficult. I know for example, that I don't have much of a history posting photographs since I don't have the means for scanning and because I'm a relatively new member (under a year). (Although I'm hoping to post some of my better shots soon...). So I may not be the most welcome participant in the project, but I will leave it up to more experienced minds to make these sorts of decisions and keep my offer of help and my level of interest on the table.

Definitely an interesting idea, as Brent mentioned the challenge would be the selection of photographers and image editing. That would be a very large undertaking and someone would have that responsibility, in a traditional model. I am sure this can be addressed here, somehow.

Thanks to all who had posted here!

This is not a easy way to get finished!....sending a picture and in 4 weeks you can buy the book is dreaming!....there is a lot of work and logistic to do...I think we need about 1 year to get it finished..and we need a "publishing house" to do the marketing and they are very hard to get!

..the most important is to get a concept together.....

Jan

I prefer to have a mutually agreed concept or an idea, which we can transform into our pictures; i. e. city lights, workers, landscapes, architecture, moving objects and such. Just as a starting point so we all can work the idea a bit closer. Once mutually agreed I would like to see us to make the pictures from start instead of just browsing the existing portfolios of each of us. This would result that these pictures will be made in a particular year. If we publish in 2007, which might become our deadline we can title/subtitle accordingly.

I think we also have the tools for 'available darkness' so we can show the world what it is all about a RF and push-processing, if you wish. This said, I would prefer to make the discussions internally.

Then I appreciate to opt out ourselfs as it is not for public scrutening. This is in order to avoid our pictures becomeing public domain before the book is yet to be published. Only a selection of pictures can be used for our 'commercials' before we hit the high street. :-)

Moreover, I would like to have only M and R systems involved. This is to exclude the P&S systems. I would agree to have the DMR in though.

IMHO we need a concept first so we can opt in. A mailing list may become our way to communicate further and to extablish workflows.

Uwe

I think if you confine the selection to M and R only, then owners of D2, D1 , D-Lux 2 and even C-1 would be excluded, when perhaps the concept is best suited to the whole range of Leica cameras and enthusiasts, operating in different circumstances.

I've no opinion about internal or external editing but your comment on that sounds like a good idea

Similarly whether we should be confined to certain subjects, or to photographs taken within a certain timeframe, or even on a certain day (a bit like the 'one challenge' worldwide and in a book) I don't know - maybe for a first attempt, just a good photo, taken at any time, would be the best idea.
