Long Beach Grand Prix

I know I commented on this early today -- I guess I clicked the wrong button. Delightful set for composition, light and color (with one exception). #1 is great for depth and vantage point but the color seems shifted towards magenta. I love everything about the Porsche shot, but for some reason I keep scrolling up to #3. I think all but #4 would benefit from a bit of sharpening.

Number one has a nice angle to it but understandably devoid of racing machinery. The subjects in the rest all look to be high maintenance, although I do prefer number three. :) Would liked to have touched base with you -- maybe some other time at another race. Keep up the good work.

Thanks Stuart. From your magenta comment I went back to Aperture and revealed the "master" image to review. Oddly... the magenta that leaks from the upper left is there too. I can only guess that it might actually be reflect from the bottom of the frame. The camera is sitting on the ground in this shot. Given that, I'm not sure I'd attempt correction. Unless, of course, someone had the urge to write a check. LOL

John, I have to admit, after a race, I can't wait to see what you'll post here! I couldn't make the 'Beach this year. I usually am part of the flag ream on the turns working for CalClub but may be a Safety Steward next year.

 

#3 is why we all love working this race. You just can't beat Southern California for "viewing".

Well, thank you for that. I hope you'll view my "other" non Leica stuff on my site.

 

I'm into the "flying" part of the season now, but I'm working hard at taking at least one Leica with me. The bag weight is REALLY testing the carry on limits. Put it this way, I NEVER put the bag in MY overhead bin. LOL

 

Using the Leica has really had an impact on my shooting this year. It's made me realize the importance of not relying on the "cruise control" available with all my Canon gear. By that, I'm not just referring to the automatic aspects, but even having such a wide variety of glass to draw on. The Leica makes me think.

 

I don't expect to be using in trackside anytime soon, but I do make more time available to go out and use it in pit-lane and around the paddock... at least prior to race day.
